Result of the Tender from French Total to Be Announced in May, Vessel Will Be the Seventeenth of Its Kind to Operate in Brazilian Waters
The tender for the hiring of a PLSV for the Lapa field, promoted by Total, is nearing its end.
In May, the market will know who the winner will be, but as Click Petróleo e Gás has already reported here on our portal, Technip was announced today (04/09) as the winner to supply flexible lines.
The PLSV will operate in the Lapa field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, for a period of about one year, and Total is finishing the analysis of the bids received last November.
In mid-January, Total requested offshore service providers to submit new commercial prices for this tender, which slightly delayed the process.

The Lapa field was acquired by Total from Petrobras in January 2018 for US$ 1.95 billion. As the majority stakeholder, holding 35%, Total operates the field, with partners Repsol-Sinopec, owning 25%, and Petrobras with 10%.
The entity responsible for oil extraction is the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba, which was integrated at Brasfels and belongs to Moedc, with a production capacity of 120,000 bopd and processing 5 million m³/d of natural gas.
According to data from ANP, the Lapa field produced 29,700 boed in February, comprising 23,800 bopd and 934,000 m³/d of natural gas, ranking fifth in Brazil in production, behind Lula, Sapinhoá, Jubarte, Búzios, and Mero.
The PLSV
This type of vessel is used for laying underwater flexible lines, and as previously mentioned, Technip won the contract with Total to supply gas lift and gas injection pipes, as well as associated fittings for the Lapa field.
Technip classified the contract signing as “significant,” which is where contracts between US$ 75 million and US$ 250 million fit.
According to a survey by Abeam (Brazilian Association of Maritime Support Companies), there are 16 PLSVs operating in Brazilian waters, six operated by Sapura; six by DOF/Norskan; and four by Subsea 7.
Two other vessels, the Top Coral do Atlântico and Top Estrela do Mar, are classified by Abeam as MPSVs (multipurpose vessels), even though they were contracted by Petrobras as PLSVs.
