Toyota Corolla Cross Arrives With a Bang and Annihilates the Best-Selling SUV in Brazil, the Jeep Compass

Launched in April, the new Toyota Corolla Cross brought innovations to further heat up the competition with the Jeep Compass. With prices ranging from R$ 164,990 to R$ 210,990, how does it perform against the current sales leader in the medium SUV segment, which also received updates for the 2025 lineup?

To answer this question, the portal Mobilidade selected seven essential items to compare the new Toyota Corolla Cross XRE with the Jeep Compass Sport, which are the closest entry-level versions in price. For consumption data, the Inmetro table was used.

Power

The Jeep Compass Sport has a 1.3 turbo flex engine with 180/185 hp (gasoline/ethanol) and 270 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic with front-wheel drive. The Toyota Corolla Cross XRE, on the other hand, comes with a 2.0 flex aspirated engine with 169/175 hp (g/e) and 204 Nm of torque. Equipped with a CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, the Compass stands out in this regard by offering more power and torque.

Performance

As reported by Toyota, the Corolla Cross XRE accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 195 km/h. Jeep states that the Compass Sport goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, with a top speed of 207 km/h. Thus, the Compass wins again in performance.

New Toyota SUV is More Fuel Efficient Than Rival

According to Inmetro, the Jeep Compass Sport achieves 7.4 km/l in the city and 8.7 km/l on the highway with ethanol. With gasoline, the numbers are 10.5 km/l and 12.1 km/l, respectively, with an overall average of 9.7 km/l. The Toyota Corolla Cross XRE achieves 8.2 km/l and 9.0 km/l in the city and highway with ethanol, and 11.7 km/l and 13.0 km/l with gasoline, resulting in an overall average of 10.5 km/l. The Corolla Cross has the advantage in this regard.

Multimedia

The Jeep Compass comes with an 8.4” multimedia center compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly, as well as Bluetooth with voice commands and audio control via the steering wheel, and USB Type A and C ports. The Toyota Corolla Cross has a 9” center with the same features but adds wireless phone charging and a 12.3” digital panel, items absent in the Compass Sport. Point for the Corolla Cross.

Safety

In terms of safety, the Compass Sport comes standard with six airbags (front, side, and curtain), ABS brakes, stability and traction controls, as well as electronic roll-over prevention. The Corolla Cross, in addition to these items, includes a knee airbag for the driver, autonomous emergency braking, collision alerts, and lane-keeping assist. By providing more safety features, the Corolla Cross wins in this regard.

Trunk

The Toyota Corolla Cross has a trunk capacity of 440 liters. The Jeep Compass officially has a trunk capacity of 476 liters, but it uses a different measurement standard, considering the total volume as if it were filled with liquids. Using the same VDA standard as Toyota, the Compass’s trunk is 410 liters. Therefore, the Corolla Cross offers more luggage space.

Corolla Cross is Cheaper Than Compass

The Jeep Compass Sport starts at R$ 179,990, with options such as the Pack High Tech package (R$ 15,000), light leather seats (R$ 3,500), and panoramic sunroof (R$ 10,000), in addition to metallic or pearlescent paint (R$ 2,200). The Toyota Corolla Cross XRE has a starting price of R$ 164,990, with extra costs only for metallic (R$ 2,020) or pearlescent (R$ 2,330) paint. The Corolla Cross wins for costing less.

Final Result: JEEP COMPASS VS TOYOTA COROLLA CROSS

ITEM Jeep Compass Sport Toyota Corolla Cross XRE
Power 2 1
Performance 2 1
Fuel Consumption 1 2
Multimedia 2 2
Safety 1 2
Trunk 1 2
Price 1 2
Total Points 9 12

ATTENTION! Points, from 0 to 3, were assigned according to the criteria of the Car Guide, and both vehicles share this value. Thus, each car can add up to 21 points in total across the 7 compared items. This tie-breaker aims to provide a quick comparison of the 7 most relevant aspects for most consumers. In an analysis with other items, the result may differ – or not.

New Leader! Toyota Corolla Cross Defeated the Best-Selling SUV in Brazil, the Rival Jeep Compass

The Toyota Corolla Cross won the comparison with a 2-point advantage, mainly due to the cost-benefit of the XRE version compared to the Compass Sport. Victories in safety, multimedia, and price demonstrate that the Corolla Cross offers more for less, while the Compass can become more expensive with options.

Both are well-balanced SUVs and close in several aspects, and the result could change if other versions were considered. For those looking for more performance and power, the Jeep Compass Sport is more advantageous. However, for those more concerned with cost, the Toyota Corolla Cross XRE is the better choice.
