After six years, the Port of Pecém will once again receive transshipment from Petrobras ships loaded with liquid fuel to carry out transshipment operations — a modality known as ship to ship (from ship to ship) — from next February.

Resumption of transhipment of Petrobras ships in the Port of Pecém

The resumption of the transhipment of fuels by Petrobras ships at the Port of Pecém announced yesterday (17) by Governor Camilo Santana should leverage the State's tax collection. The operation, which was suspended since 2014 by Petrobras, will take place again in February next year and will allow the distribution of fuel from larger ships to smaller ships, which will transport the fuel to other states in the North and Northeast.

“We were able to license this operation with Ibama (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Natural Resources) and as of next February, Petrobras will carry out this operation with us again”, said Danilo Serpa, president of the Pecém Complex (Cipp S /A).

He claims that Petrobras' transhipment operation at the Port of Pecém will impact the State's collection, but should not influence the price of fuel to consumers in Ceará, because the transport logistics remain the same.

“The product destined for the stations is, was and will be made by the Port of Fortaleza. It is important to say: supply logistics will continue to be the same as it has been happening. This fuel will not be unloaded at the Port of Pecém”, explains Iughetti.

“These are larger ships that will arrive in Brazil with liquid fuel and will pass on to smaller ships to take to states in the North and Northeast regions. It is a very important operation for the port, because, in the same berth, you dock two ships – the smaller one next to the larger one”, explained Serpa. The Secretary of Economic Development of Ceará, Maia Júnior, and the President of Transpetro, Gustavo Raposo, also participated in the meeting.
