Brazilian Physicist Mauricio Queiroz Develops Underwater Turbine That Could Revolutionize The Market. The Equipment Is More Efficient Than Traditional Wind Turbines And Is Also Environmentally Friendly!

With the increasing demand for renewable energy sources and the growing concern about greenhouse gas emissions, Mauricio Queiroz, a Brazilian physicist, has developed a revolutionary underwater turbine. This innovative technology is highly efficient and capable of generating clean energy for up to 22,000 homes with just one unit, significantly surpassing the efficiency of traditional wind turbines.

Understand The Importance Of The New Underwater Turbine

The new underwater turbine is significantly smaller and more efficient than traditional wind turbines, and it has been specifically developed to harness energy from the oceans. This innovation has the potential to transform the clean energy industry.

According to the founder and CEO of the startup, Mauricio Queiroz, ocean energy is unique as it is predictable and constant. This ensures energy security since the electricity generated from this resource is stable and reliable. The ocean is a renewable energy source and can be used to provide clean and safe energy for communities.

This statement highlights the importance of using renewable energy sources to ensure energy security in the coming years. The ocean is the only clean and safe energy source and can be used to generate energy.

The ocean currents have already been extensively mapped worldwide, allowing for the strategic planning of the installation of this new underwater turbine. The startup has developed a unique technology to capture hydrokinetic energy from underwater currents.

More Powerful Model Than Traditional Wind Turbines Generates Up To 5 MW

TIDALWATT is planning to install its underwater turbines in areas with average current speeds exceeding 1 knot. This new underwater turbine is capable of generating 5 MW of clean energy with a capacity variation between 70% and 95%.

According to the average energy consumption of Brazilian households, each of these turbines can supply energy to about 22,800 families. The executive emphasizes that the energy generation capacity is linked to the amount of energy available in nature that can be converted into electricity.

As for the ocean, it depends on the infrastructure that will be built with investments to meet the demand of several regions.

The company prioritizes, with its equipment more powerful than traditional wind turbines, the protection of marine life. The installation sites have been chosen away from coral reefs to protect surrounding ecosystems and avoid bottom trawling. Additionally, as with the bases of some wind farms, artificial reefs will be formed to allow various marine species to live and reproduce safely in the area.

Underwater Turbine Revolutionizes Clean Energy Generation

Queiroz explains that the 3 m diameter turbines can generate up to 5 MW of power at a current of 1.87 knots, almost the same power as traditional wind turbines with a diameter of 180 m.

Thus, the turbine with a diameter 60 times smaller generates the same power. Furthermore, due to the availability of the source, a wind turbine generates energy 90% of the time, meaning it is 3,600 times smaller in coverage area since the startup’s turbines can generate 3 times more energy.

The technology of the new underwater turbine developed by the Brazilian physicist promises environmental and economic benefits and aligns with the SDGs 7, 13, and 14, regarding clean and affordable energy, climate action, and life below water, respectively.

The system was developed to transform economically inactive and uninhabited ocean areas into revenue sources without disturbing surrounding ecosystems and without generating any visual or noise pollution.

TIDALWATT AT COP28: SCIENTIST FROM PRAIA GRANDE PRESENTS THESIS IN DUBAI

The physicist is one of the Brazilians who presented a panel at COP28, in Dubai, on November 30, 2023. The 28th UN climate conference is a super important event and where the eyes of the world will be focused in the coming days. It featured participation from governments worldwide, diplomats, scientists, civil society, and private entities to seek solutions to the climate crisis.

The day was a milestone for our region, after all, the same ocean that frightens the city with the possibility of covering 7% of our territory due to climate change could also be the key to solving several problems. That is where TidalWatt resides, an idea that understands the UNIT COLLECTOR OF CURRENT ENERGY (UCEC), a solution created by Mauricio, who traveled to Dubai to speak at the ocean pavilion on December 9.
