Entrepreneurs Could Learn About The Main Trends Of The Sector At TOC Connect
T2S Tecnologia attended the TOC Connect edition in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with the participation of the company’s directors, Rodrigo Lopes Salgado and Ricardo Pupo Larguesa.
Considered one of the largest international events in the container handling port sector, the entrepreneurs represented not only T2S but Brazil as well. The intention was to follow the main trends in the field, share ideas, engage in discussions, and network with leaders from around the world, with a special focus on Europe and the Americas.
International Video Release of The Event
The event lasted three weeks, from October 18 to November 5, with the on-site stage in the Netherlands occurring on October 26 and 27.

Nine giant ships of up to 210,000 gross tons equipped with dual fuel ammonia engines are being launched by Japan and Belgium. The project includes the world’s first Capesize vessels using this fuel, with contracts of up to 12 years, marking the beginning of a carbon-free ocean fleet starting in 2026.

This was the first TOC Events event to be held in a 100% hybrid format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the organization, all safety measures and protocols against the coronavirus were adopted. At the on-site stage, T2S directors, Rodrigo Salgado and Ricardo Pupo, were alongside 150 other professionals.
Among the topics discussed in the TOC Connect lectures attended by T2S directors was the concern regarding inflation of service prices, an effect generated by the pandemic.
According to Ricardo Pupo, at the beginning of the health crisis, there was a sharp decline in port activity, which lasted only a short time. “Soon after, activities increased and took on a much faster pace than before COVID-19. This caused prices to inflate, a shortage of containers, and congestion in ports. Furthermore, the profit of shipping companies rose significantly. The topic was well discussed,” he explained.
The T2S directors also toured a system for container storage and handling via HBS – High Bay Storage (high-bay storage), the BOXBAY, a technology that significantly improves operations in container terminals.
Instead of stacking containers directly on top of one another, which has been a global standard practice for decades, BOXBAY places each container in an individual rack, making each one directly accessible. The storage capacity of terminals is enhanced by stacking containers up to 11 levels high, with solar panels on its roof.
According to Rodrigo Salgado, participating in another edition of TOC Connect was undoubtedly an enriching experience. “T2S strives to stay ahead of the market with innovative solutions. Events like this help us gain more space in the global scenario by offering quality services,” he commented.
Other points debated at TOC Connect included global connections through accelerated digitization, green strategies in the sector, port congestion, high rates, and prospects for investors in the global port sector, among other essential themes for the sector’s growth in 2022.
Visit to Belgium
After TOC Connect, T2S directors, Rodrigo Salgado and Ricardo Pupo visited Camco Technologies, located in Leuven, Belgium.
Camco is a company that operates in the field of artificial intelligent image recognition and develops vision-based applications and asset management tools, increasing the efficiency of operations in maritime and rail terminals.
During the visit, they learned about an innovative process: the manufacturing of the BoxCatcher Camera: STS Crane OCR, which accurately identifies containers both during loading and unloading, without interfering with or slowing down crane operations.
Still at Camco Technologies, T2S directors visited two terminals, Combinant and PSA Antwerp, learning about the automation systems offered by the Belgian company. The standout project is the BoxCatcher, a mobile camera system installed on a rail mounted on the crane following the flight path of the container in real-time.
The integration of the Terminal Operating System (TOS) ensures that the captured data is sent instantly, improving the vessel’s response time. This Optical Character Recognizer (OCR) crane solution detects the container ID, ISO code, seal presence, IMDG label, and door direction, and provides 360° images of the container.
The BoxCatcher travels vertically to the ideal position for capturing sharp images, in any condition, of the short and long sides of the container and to support different sizes, configurations, and distances of containers, using a combination of 12MP and 4MP global shutter cameras, plus embedded LED light projectors that ensure adequate lighting conditions (on demand). It provides a safe and accurate record of the physical data of the container.
The system also optionally comes with a washing station for automated cleaning of the front cover without interrupting crane operations.
