EDF Norte Fluminense has just signed a partnership with the “One Million Opportunities” initiative, which brings together the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Labor Organization (ILO), international institutions, the private sector, the third sector, governments and civil society. The initiative is the largest articulation for youth in Brazil and the company seeks to collaborate with changing the employment and educational scenario and generate job openings, internships and young apprentices for vulnerable candidates

The company, which is responsible for generating 25% of the energy consumed in the metropolitan region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, seeks to collaborate with changing the employment and educational scenario of Brazilian youth. Today, 6,6 million young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are out of school and out of work.

Supporting “One Million Opportunities”, which is the largest organization for youth in Brazil, EDF Norte Fluminense is committed to generating job opportunities for vulnerable youth and adolescents – such as blacks, browns, indigenous peoples, residents of the periphery , rural areas and people with disabilities – entering the labor market in internship positions, young apprentices and formal employment.

“We have a responsibility to cooperate with the development of the country's youth to ensure more equal opportunities in the future. It is extremely rewarding to participate in such a transformative initiative that meets the values ​​of EDF Norte Fluminense”, says Emmanuelle Missire, director of Human Resources, Communication and QSMA at EDF Norte Fluminense.

With the support of the project, the EDF Norte Fluminense contributes even more to the qualified inclusion of young people in the labor market, with the necessary conditions for them to continue with their studies and complete their schooling and compete for job openings. In addition, the company is committed to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“One Million Opportunities” aims to create more opportunities for access to quality education and decent and fair jobs for young people aged 14 to 24, especially those in vulnerable situations. Over the next two years, the project intends to generate one million opportunities, based on four main pillars: access to quality education; digital inclusion and connectivity; promotion of entrepreneurship and the protagonism of adolescents and young people; and access to the world of work through internship, apprenticeship and formal employment opportunities.
