Documents And Patents Exposed In Australia Show Redesigned Interior Of Hilux 2026, Light Hybrid 48V System And Maintenance Of Current Base. Brazil Should Receive The Pickup In 2026.

Patents and documents that have come to light in Australia reveal the largest cabin redesign of the Hilux in a decade. The images show a raised “floating” multimedia center, new air vents, and a fully digital instrument panel.

Reports from the specialized press indicate that the dashboard adopts a tiered design and shares solutions with SUVs and pickups from the brand. There is inspiration from Tacoma, Land Cruiser/Prado, and Tundra, which reinforces the standardization of ergonomics and physical controls for essential functions.

The screen is expected to be larger than the current one. Australian publications mention a unit in the range of 12 inches, with basic versions possibly using smaller displays. The goal is to improve connectivity and navigation without relying on touch controls for the air conditioning.

The center console also changes: taller tunnel, new storage compartments, and repositioning of the gear lever. The expectation is for more cup holders and physical buttons dedicated to climate, items valued by fleet operators and those who use the pickup for work.

Engine 2.8 Turbodiesel Continues, Now With 48V Hybrid

Records indicate that the global engine strategy should prioritize the 2.8 turbodiesel already known in Brazil, now with a 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) system in more versions. The set includes a motor-generator, 48V lithium-ion battery, and DC/DC converter, with increased efficiency in starts and accelerations.

Toyota has already detailed this MHEV in markets outside Brazil: the power remains at 204 hp (201 bhp) and the torque at 500 Nm (≈51 mkgf), with electric assistance of up to 12 kW and 65 Nm. There is no 100% electric mode. It is the same 2.8 base that equips Hilux and Prado in Europe. For the consumer, the gain is in low-end response and fuel consumption.

Sources in Australia suggest a reduction of options, with a possible elimination of the 2.7 gasoline and 2.4 turbodiesel in several markets, concentrating the line on the 2.8 MHEV. This would also explain the simplification of bodies, with the eventual end of the extended cab (Extra-Cab) in certain markets.

In Brazil, light electrification is likely to arrive alongside the redesign. The logic is the same adopted by the brand in Europe, facilitating emissions homologation while maintaining the robustness of diesel for load and towing.

Platform Remains, But The Reform Is Deep

Despite the new interior and visual changes, the structural base continues to follow the ladder-frame architecture of the current generation. Doors and roof are expected to be maintained, while the front and rear receive new designs, with updated hood, grille, bumper, and lights. It is an extensive redesign, not a completely new project.

This strategy reduces costs and industrial risks for key factories, such as the one in Thailand and in Zárate (Argentina), which supplies Brazil. At the same time, it frees up investment for light electrification, ADAS, and cabin items that the public values.

The expected result is better drivability — with electric steering in more versions — and safety updates without compromising the durability reputation that supports Hilux sales in fleets and agribusiness.

Physical controls remain present for critical functions. This is relevant for off-road use and heavy work, where there is vibration and gloves on hands.

Launch In November In Thailand And In Brazil Only In 2026

The global debut is scheduled for November at an auto show in Bangkok, according to Thai and Brazilian outlets that analyzed records from the Australian government. The internal codename is AN2.

In Australia, official documents published by regulatory agencies reinforce that the model is close to approval/entry into the local market, which usually precedes the public presentation.

For Brazil, the most solid forecast is 2026, with production in Argentina and the start of homologation and regional adaptation phases throughout the year. That is, no national launch in 2025.

This rollout repeats Toyota’s historical cadence: reveal and start sales in Asia, validation in key markets such as Australia, and then Mercosur.

And you, what do you think? Keeping the platform and adopting 48V hybrid is enough progress to face Ranger and S10, or did the Hilux need an entirely new generation? Leave your comment and say if you would prefer a larger multimedia or prioritize physical controls and robustness for heavy use.
