Tesla And Volkswagen Electric Cars

The electric car market is about to be accessible to a lot more people as we now learn that Tesla and Volkswagen, the two electric vehicle market leaders, have affordable electric car programs that are going to start at ~$25.000 to $30.000.

In research on the adoption of electricity, the price of new electric cars is always a top concern for new Tesla AND Volkswagen buyers. When it comes to the luxury segments, many EVs have matched price and performance with their fossil fuel equivalents.

Improvements to battery technology in electric cars from Tesla and Volkswagen are now starting to allow automakers to achieve higher performance, specifically longer ranges, at a lower price in electric vehicles – opening up EV ownership to more people.

Now, two major electric car manufacturers have announced attractive electric vehicle programs that are expected to start at ~$25.000 to $30.000. In September, Tesla announced that it will make a new, smaller, long-range electric car with its new battery technology starting at $25.000.

Tesla CEO – Elon Musk commented on the announcement:

Tesla will make an eye-catching $25.000 electric car that's also fully autonomous.

Musk also added that the new among several $25.000 electric car models will hit the market in about three years as Tesla ramps up production of its new battery cell.

Now, Volkswagen is apparently entering the race for low-end electric cars on the market.

Reuters reports today that Volkswagen has given the go-ahead for a new "small BEV" vehicle program that would start with a price tag of $24.000-30.000:

“In the so-called project“ Small BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) ”, engineers are racing to develop a Polo-sized purely battery-powered car, which will be available for €20.000-25.000 ($24.000-30.000).” Volkswagen recently released the ID.3 electric car, which starts at close to the equivalent of $34.000 – although it's not sold in the US.
