Hatch, Pickup, and Sedan from Volkswagen Maintain Strength in 2025 with Tax Incentives and Good Sales in the Country

The Brazilian automotive market has changed radically in recent years. If before R$ 100,000 bought well-equipped mid-range vehicles, today the list in this price range is limited. However, Volkswagen maintains three standout models: Polo, Saveiro, and Virtus.

These vehicles, supported by the Sustainable Car Program, launched in July 2025 to reduce IPI on national models, have become strategic for fleet owners and ride-hailing drivers. According to Fenabrave (2025), the three models remain relevant in sales and help sustain the brand’s position in Brazil.

Polo Track Attracts Ride-Hailing Drivers and Leads in Sales

The Volkswagen Polo Track was launched in 2022 to fill the space of an affordable, straightforward, and easy-to-maintain compact hatch. Since then, it has established itself as a favorite among ride-hailing drivers. In July 2025, the Sustainable Car Program reduced the price of the version from R$ 92,660 to R$ 87,845.

This discount boosted the numbers: from January to July 2025, there were 70,155 registrations of the Polo, with a strong contribution from the Track version. The rest of the lineup includes the Sense (R$ 107,990), the 170 TSI (R$ 107,800), and the Highline (R$ 131,650), the latter being outside the R$ 100,000 range.

The Polo Track uses a 1.0 MPI naturally aspirated engine with 84 hp, a five-speed manual transmission, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 16 seconds, according to Volkswagen’s own data. Although performance is modest, fuel efficiency compensates: 13.5 km/l in the city and 15.7 km/l on the highway, according to Inmetro (2025).

The Sense and 170 TSI versions use a 1.0 turbo engine with up to 116 hp. The former features a six-speed automatic transmission, while the latter retains a manual gearbox. The average fuel efficiencies are similar, ranging between 13 and 16 km/l, ensuring efficiency for urban and highway use.

Even in the entry version, the Polo offers four airbags, electric steering, and hill-start assist. In the higher versions, features include multimedia center, digital dashboard, and LED headlights. The 300-liter trunk and good interior space complete the package.

Saveiro Maintains Relevance Even Close to Replacement

The Volkswagen Saveiro has made history among compact pickups since the 1980s. However, by 2025 it is already showing signs of wear. Its successor, the intermediate pickup Udara, will be launched in 2026, with a size similar to that of Chevrolet Montana and Fiat Toro.

Even so, the Saveiro does not give up. Until July 2025, there were 34,843 units registered, although far from the leader Fiat Strada, with 75,592, according to Fenabrave. About 94% of sales were to companies, confirming its focus on professional use.

The Robust CS version, equipped with a 1.6 MSI engine with up to 116 hp and manual transmission, received a significant discount: from R$ 109,490 to R$ 88,687. Thus, it became an affordable alternative compared to the basic Strada, priced above R$ 110,000.

The pickup features reinforced suspension, a 924-liter cargo bed, and a payload capacity of 664 kg, characteristics that make it reliable for work. However, it only offers the minimum required in safety, with front airbags, stability and traction controls, and ramp assist.

In the official tests of the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV/Inmetro, 2025), it recorded fuel consumption of 11.2 km/l in the city and 12.9 km/l on the highway, below the rival Strada, which reaches 14.7 km/l on the highway.

Virtus Sense Offers Space and Efficiency in 2025

The Volkswagen Virtus Sense TSI is the entry-level version of the sedan and the only one in the R$ 110,000 price range. Priced at R$ 108,990 in 2025, it stands out among fleets and ride-hailing drivers seeking low maintenance costs and generous space.

Equipped with a 1.0 TSI engine with up to 116 hp and a five-speed manual transmission, the model delivers 16.8 kgfm of torque and good performance in urban use. The official fuel consumption, according to Inmetro, is 13.2 km/l in the city and 15.8 km/l on the highway.

The 521-liter trunk is one of the largest in its category and surpasses direct rivals, such as the Fiat Cronos, which, although offering 525 liters, loses interior space with a wheelbase 13 cm shorter. The Virtus, with 2.65 m of wheelbase, ensures comfort for rear-seat occupants.

The list of features includes six airbags, an 8-inch digital dashboard, electric steering, air conditioning, and power windows. Despite this, the simple finish in hard plastics detracts from the price.

Even so, the Virtus is a sales success. Until July 2025, there were 21,035 registrations, just behind the Toyota Corolla, with 21,566, according to Fenabrave.

What Volkswagen’s Numbers Show in 2025

With the Polo, Volkswagen ensures low costs and fuel efficiency, even if it sacrifices performance. The Saveiro endures with strength in the corporate sector, but its farewell is already scheduled. The Virtus, on the other hand, stands out for its interior space and generous trunk, but charges more for the package.

Thus, amid market changes and the direct impact of the Sustainable Car Program in 2025, Volkswagen continues to deliver competitive models in the R$ 100,000 range, balancing tradition, strategy, and tax incentives.

What do you think is more important in this scenario: investing in an entry-level car with low maintenance costs or prioritizing space and comfort even if it costs more?
