Voltalia Begins Construction of New Wind Power Plant in Bahia That May Create Many Jobs, New Projects Expected Soon

Voltalia Energia do Brasil has started the construction of a wind power plant in the municipality of Canudos in Bahia, and it is expected that up to 50 direct jobs will be generated during operation and 1,500 indirect jobs during the construction of the wind power plant, which will have an installed capacity of 99 Megawatts (MW) with great potential for expansion.

Canudos 1 – Wind Power Plant of Voltalia in Bahia

The Canudos 1 project is a wind power plant of 99.4 megawatts, exceeding the 90 megawatts announced in December 2019. The long-term energy sale contract, lasting 20 years, was signed with the Brazilian utility Cemig.

Voltalia chose the G132 – 3.55 MW model for the 28 turbines that will equip the plant. The construction of the substation has already begun, and the wind farm itself is expected to be fully inaugurated in the first half of 2022.

The new plant in Bahia demonstrates Voltalia’s ability to replicate a successful business model that has made the 2.4 gigawatt Serra Branca cluster the largest wind and solar cluster in the world.

This strategy involves developing a large and competitive set of projects in the same location, aiming to retain some projects and sell others, with all projects benefiting from economies of scale. The estimated total potential for Canudos is 1 gigawatt.

Bahia Breaking Records and New Plant

“The good winds are always bringing positive news to Bahia. We have attracted a new park that will generate jobs and income for the Bahian people. Wind energy is already the second source of energy in Brazil, and our state has contributed to the growth of this energy in the country. According to the National Electric System Operator (ONS), on September 30, the Northeast reached a record in wind generation, and Bahia was responsible for 31% of the energy generated,” declared Leão.
