Reprograma, a social impact initiative, opened enrollment last Monday (the 27th) for its first free JavaScript course. This project aims to reduce the gender gap in the technology sector by further qualifying women who wish to pursue a career in the field.
In total, 80 spots are available, targeted at black, trans, and travesty women who already have basic knowledge in JavaScript or some education in technology and are looking for professional development.

This project aims to reduce gender inequality in the technology sector through education, offering various types of free courses related to the sector.
The initiative is important as today, the technology sector is one of the fastest-growing economic sectors in Brazil and worldwide, yet it still lacks a diverse team that produces innovations corresponding to the immense plurality of society.
In this sense, Reprograma works to make the technology sector fairer and more varied, increasing the employability of women.
How Will the Course and Enrollment Work?
Enrollment for the free course should be completed between June 27 and July 25, via the link on the Reprograma website. The course will last 12 weeks, with 20 hours per week.
The 80 spots will be divided into two classes with up to 40 students each, and there will be a total of 14 hours of classes and 6 hours of exercises, following the teaching methodology adopted by Reprograma: exposure, practice, support, and feedback.
Anyone who identifies as female, whether cisgender, trans, or travesty, can apply for the spots. Additionally, candidates must reside in Brazil, speak Portuguese, be over 18 years old, have basic knowledge in JavaScript, with their most recent education completed at least 6 months ago, and finally, must be available to attend all classes.
The free course will begin on September 17, with classes held online and live. They will take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Furthermore, students will also have access to socio-emotional guidance, which will occur on Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
How Does the Selection Process for the Free Course Work?
Throughout the selection process for filling the spots, the following evaluation criteria will be used to analyze the registered candidates: Collaboration and Empathy; Flexibility and Willingness to Learn; Quality of the Application and Coherence of the Information. The course announcement provides the complete description of the criteria.
The selection process consists of two stages, and the selected candidates for the spots will be announced on August 31 through the Reprograma website. As previously mentioned, classes will begin on September 14, 2022, and will end on December 10, 2022.
According to Liana Alice, the teaching coordinator at Reprograma, the free course being offered aims to deepen the knowledge of these women and consolidate their professional growth sustainably, helping them to secure space in the job market, as many still face challenges in their search for opportunities.
