When It Comes to Extreme Luxury, Jeff Bezos’ Superyacht Is Among the Biggest Symbols in the World. Valued at US$ 500 Million, the Giant of the Seas Demands Continuous Investment: It Costs About US$ 25 Million a Year Just for Maintenance.
Businessman Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, owns one of the most expensive and luxurious yachts in the world. Named Koru, the 127-meter superyacht was delivered in 2023 and cost around US$ 500 million.
However, the value of the vessel is just the beginning: the annual costs to keep it afloat total another impressive US$ 25 million.
Luxury on the Water
Built by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco, the Koru is considered the largest sailing yacht in the world.

It seems to have come out of a science fiction movie: A Brazilian city where it rains almost every day, recording over 4,000 mm per year, driven by climatic factors — a direct result of its strategic location in the Amazon.

The water crisis that could change everything this year has already begun; it’s not just about the climate, it affects technology, raises product prices, and can halt entire companies without warning.

A Japanese mason transforms raw granite into small cups and handcrafted utensils, collects giant stones, cuts with precision, and impresses with detailed manufacturing and finishing.
Its traditional design includes three masts and a double-deck hull made of wood. Despite its classic appearance, the interior features cutting-edge technology.
Among the highlights is a modern cinema room and a pool with a glass bottom, allowing observation of marine life beneath the vessel.
Additionally, the yacht has a canoe-shaped stern designed to ensure more privacy when docked.
The Koru accommodates up to 18 guests and a crew of 36, ensuring all the comfort needed for Bezos and his guests.
A Yacht with Company
The Koru does not sail alone. It is accompanied by a support vessel called Abeona, which also impresses. Although considered a “shadow boat,” the Abeona is larger than most regular yachts and had an additional cost of US$ 10 million.
The Abeona has room for up to 45 people, including medical staff. The structure allows the entire operation to function autonomously and safely. Together, the two vessels resemble a small floating village.
Billionaire Yachts
Jeff Bezos is not the only billionaire investing in vessels of this size. Luxury yachts are common among the super-rich.
A Saudi magnate, for example, installed a bed that transforms into a 158-inch LED screen on his US$ 320 million yacht.
Another billionaire commissioned a 404-foot yacht with a beach club, dive center, and capacity for 20 guests. These examples show that, among the wealthiest, luxury at sea is almost a rule.
Cost That Few Can Afford
In addition to the purchase price, the operating costs of a superyacht are a significant factor. In the case of the Koru, it’s US$ 25 million a year just for maintenance. Adding the Abeona, the cost rises even more.
For most people, these figures would be unthinkable. But with an estimated fortune of US$ 189.1 billion, Bezos certainly has plenty of room to cover the expenses for his new toy.
The Koru has a maximum speed of 17 km/h and is still in its early years of use.
Despite all the information about the vessel, one question remains: where will Jeff Bezos take his superyacht on his next trip? This is the question that remains unanswered.
