October auctions will add 100.874 MW in renewable energy projects in Brazil

The auction will contract hydroelectric, wind, solar, biomass, coal and natural gas projects

Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE), Brazil's state-owned energy research company, disclosed on Tuesday that 100.874 MW of renewable energy projects have been registered for the next auction, which will be held on October 17, 2019. Called A -6, the auction will contract hydroelectric, wind, solar, biomass, coal and natural gas projects. In total, 1.829 energy projects will compete for contracts.

This tender, previously scheduled for September 26, will award power purchase agreements (PPAs) that will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

In Brazil, hydroelectric plants (UHE) are divided into three groups, depending on their capacity. UHE, with a capacity greater than 30 MW, PCH, between 1 MW and 30 MW, and CGH of up to 1 MW.
