Volvo Announces That The SUV Model XC40, Which Was Previously A Gasoline Car, Will Now Only Be Sold As An Electric Car And Estimates That Its Sales Will Grow By Up To 10% In The Next Year
Volvo Car Brazil, the importer of the Swedish automaker in the country, announced that starting this week all SUV XC40 models, its best-selling car in Brazil, will cease being gasoline cars and will become electric cars. It is worth noting that in addition to the gasoline version, the hybrid versions will also be discontinued. Volvo sees the initiative with the SUV XC40 as the largest electrification announcement ever made in Brazil, considering that the model is responsible for more than 40% of all sales of the company in the national market currently.

With the new measure, the Swedish automaker expects the volume of XC40 registrations to grow an average of 8% to 10% next year, making the model the best-selling electric car in Brazilian territory, a position currently held by the Porsche Taycan.
Until now, the former gasoline car is sold in a single trim version, priced at R$ 389,950. The model has two electric motors with a torque of 33.6 kgfm and 204 horsepower each, one rear and one front, generating all-wheel drive and together providing the electric car with 408 horsepower and 37.3 kgfm of combined torque. The battery pack alone weighs more than 500 kg and provides a range of up to 418 km, primarily for urban use.

Volvo Invests R$ 10 Million in Charging Stations for Electric Cars in Brazil
The Swedish automaker took advantage of the announcement of the XC40’s electrification to announce a project to implement fast DC charging stations on highways in all regions of Brazil in the coming years.
In total, the brand is investing R$ 10 million, and the project will be divided into five phases. In the first phase, 13 DC charging stations of 150 kW will be implemented in the Southeast Region, in the states of São Paulo, which will have ten charging stations for electric cars, Minas Gerais, with two, and Rio de Janeiro with just one.
According to the company, the stations will cover 3,350 km of highways and will be located at high-traffic service stations, such as Frango Assado and Graal, and will be open to vehicles of any brand.
Volvo Stations Can Charge 80% of The XC40 Battery in Just 35 Minutes
Each charging station will have two Type 2 plugs and will allow charging 80% of the batteries of an electric car like the former gasoline model in just 35 minutes. The installations of the 13 stations in the first phase are expected to be completed by April of next year.
Additionally, in São Paulo, Volvo will implement another 52 slow charging wallboxes, AC current or alternating, of 11 kW, at the so-called User Assistance Services, emergency service stations spread across highways in the State. The automaker’s mission is to have its fleet sold in Brazil electrified by 2025, reaching 100% by 2030.
