Vale Renews Rail Contracts in ES and Construction Works for Cariacica-Anchieta Section Should Generate Many Jobs in the State

The Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) approved yesterday (07/29) the renewal of the concession for two railways managed by Vale: Vitória a Minas Railway (EFVM) and Carajás Railway (EFC). The investment by the miner is estimated at around R$ 21 billion, and ES is expected to benefit from the generation of many jobs with the works.

Expectations are that construction and hiring for the works of the Southern Coastal Railway will begin between late 2021 and early 2022.

The document signed with Vale allocates R$ 3.2 billion for the construction of 383 kilometers of the Integration Railway of the Midwest (Fico) and a new section from Cariacica to Anchieta (ES), which is included in the project to enable the Port of Ubu.

“The Southern Coastal Railway will be a great tool for the development of ES”, said the governor of ES, Renato Casagrande.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, “this is the consolidation of an innovative solution to build railways in Brazil without the use of public resources. Cross-investment, using the grants from rail concessions, is one of the main strategies of the Federal Government to double the participation of this mode in the national transport matrix. We are showing that budget restrictions will not be an impediment to developing the infrastructure of the country.”

The EFC and EFVM railways are considered the safest in Brazil and leaders in environmental performance, according to an assessment carried out by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

The Governor of Espírito Santo stated that the Anchieta section will be the first step towards a modern railway line to Rio de Janeiro. According to him, the works will bring more development to ES and stimulate operations of other companies besides Vale.

“Since the beginning of our term, we have been seeking to improve our infrastructure so that Espírito Santo becomes a more competitive state, generating income and jobs for Espírito Santans”, added Casagrande.
