The Wuhu Shipyard, Located in Anhui Province, China, Was the Scene of a Tragedy Last Weekend. Severe Storms Hit the City, Including a Powerful Storm System That Reached Force 12 Wind.

As a result, a 450-ton gantry crane fell, crushing a nearby security guard station and killing three on-duty guards.

Nearby the shipyard, the storms also caused destruction in other cities. High winds were reported in Nanjing, uprooting trees and turning over cargo trucks, and in Shanghai, where authorities temporarily suspended passenger vessel services as a precaution.

The incident at the Wuhu shipyard is being investigated by local authorities to determine the causes of the incident. Currently, no additional information is available.

About the Wuhu Shipyard

The Wuhu Shipyard is a medium-sized shipyard that has been in the market since 1900. Located on the Yangtze River, about 250 river miles from Shanghai, the company produces a variety of high-spec special vessels for offshore energy, land transport, and project cargo operators.

The Accident at the Wuhu Shipyard

One of the main concerns in any accident, especially in the workplace, is to determine the causes of the incident. In the case of the accident at the Wuhu shipyard, high winds were the primary cause of the crane’s fall.

The Wuhu Shipyard is known for producing special vessels of high specification, which can be considerably large. The gantry crane that fell and caused the accident weighed 450 tons and was in a high-traffic area. Certainly, the fall of the gantry crane represented a significant impact at the site and an irreparable loss for the victims’ families.

The accident at the Wuhu shipyard also incurs financial losses for the company. We know that the shipbuilding market is very competitive and that the loss of human lives and equipment has a direct impact on business.
