Diesel Is Still Alive! Skoda Superb Travels Almost 3,000 Km on a Tank and Sets World Record for Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness.
Diesel Car Surprises the World and Travels Almost 3,000 Km on a Single Tank
A diesel car shocked the automotive industry by achieving an efficiency that even hybrids couldn’t reach.
The 2025 European Rally Champion, Miko Marczyk, covered 2,831 km with just 66 liters of fuel aboard a Skoda Superb TDI.
The achievement was so impressive that it entered the Guinness World Records as the new world record for efficiency.

Less than a Tera TSI, up to 710 km of range and charging in 9 minutes: the new BYD Song Ultra expands the Chinese brand’s bet on increasingly faster, more technological, and competitively priced electric SUVs.

With a 1.0 engine producing 75 hp and costing less than R$ 70,000, Fiat’s car returns to the podium as the cheapest in the country; a temporary promotion for the 2026 Like version reduces the price of the Fiat Mobi.

With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.

With a 293.5 cm³ engine and a range of up to 400 km with a 14.1-liter tank, the Honda CB 300F Twister 2026 has up to 24.7 hp, an initial price of R$ 25,150, and already exceeds R$ 29,000 in the Fipe Table.
Record Impresses with Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness
The test spanned five countries in Europe: Poland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
During the route, the car maintained an average speed of 80 km/h, achieving an incredible 38.3 km per liter.
In France, aided by favorable winds, the consumption reached 45.5 km/l, a figure that few hybrid cars can achieve.
Moreover, the result showed that diesel still has power, efficiency, and excellent cost-effectiveness.
The Skoda Superb proved that even in times of electrification, traditional technology still has much to offer.
Power and Technology Ensured Performance
The model used was practically stock.
It only had low-resistance tires and Sportline suspension lowered by 15 mm.
Under the hood, it had the reliable 2.0 TDI engine with 150 hp of power and 36.7 kgfm of torque.
As a result, the 1,590 kg sedan with a 7-speed DSG transmission delivered balanced performance without sacrificing fuel economy.
Thus, the car confirmed its reputation for providing power and range at the same time.
Driving Strategy Was Essential for the Record
During the journey, Miko Marczyk had a support team.
They analyzed traffic and guided the driver to avoid sharp braking and acceleration.
This way, consumption remained extremely low from start to finish.
Marczyk himself highlighted that the secret was to drive with consistency and precision.
Every movement was calculated to take full advantage of the terrain and weather conditions.
New Challenge: Achieve 3,000 Km on a Tank
Even after the record, Miko wants more.
His next goal is to exceed 3,000 km on a tank.
According to the driver, this is possible with premium diesel, milder temperatures, and fewer uphill sections along the route.
“With the right conditions, it’s possible to go further,” he stated.
“The TDI engine is proof that diesel can still deliver incredible results when used efficiently.”
Diesel Stands Strong in the Automotive Market
Despite the push for hybrid and electric engines, diesel remains relevant in the automotive sector.
In Europe, it once dominated the market but now represents only 8.3% of registrations, according to ACEA.
The decline began after the Dieselgate scandal and new environmental regulations.
Even so, brands like Skoda still believe in diesel for its unmatched cost-effectiveness and range.
The Future of Diesel: Endurance to the Limit
The Volkswagen Group, owner of Skoda, has already begun phasing out diesel engines from compact cars like the Fabia and Polo.
However, larger models like the Golf, Octavia, and the brand’s SUVs still feature the technology.
On the other hand, the European Union will ban the sale of new combustion cars starting in 2035.
Therefore, the future of diesel seems increasingly restricted.
But, as long as there is space, it will continue to symbolize power, economy, and real range.
