The initially announced price of R$98.900 already positioned the Dolphin Mini as a competitive option in the electric car segment, but now it could become the cheapest electric car in Brazil.

In an audacious strategic move, BYD dealers in Brazil reveal a possible launch price for the Dolphin Mini that is much more attractive than expected. Rumors indicate that the vehicle could hit the market with an initial offer of R$89, aiming to attract consumers to the first batch, which offers a four-seater configuration.

BYD launch strategy leaves consumers excited

The initially announced price of R$98.900 already positioned the BYD Dolphin Mini as a competitive option in the electric car segment. However, BYD appears willing to bet even bigger.

With the limit of four seats in the first batch, the price reduction serves as an additional incentive. This movement is seen as a way of paving the way for the five-seater version, currently in the homologation phase, which should arrive in a second batch.

The portal InsideEVs Brazil had the opportunity to try the Dolphin Mini in Shenzhen, China, and the impressions were very positive. The vehicle, despite its compact size (3,78 m long and 2,50 m wheelbase), surprises with its internal space, comfortably accommodating four occupants. However, the small trunk may be a point of attention for some consumers.

Features, battery options, equipment and technology onboard the BYD Dolphin Mini

The BYD Dolphin Mini doesn't skimp on features, even though it's an entry-level model. It comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, among others. One doubt that persists is the number of airbags in the Brazilian version, which can vary between four and six.

The model offers two battery options in China: a 30 kWh battery, which could be the choice for the most affordable version, and a more advanced 38,8 kWh battery with Blade technology, providing autonomy of 402 km by the Chinese test cycle. The rapid recharge capacity, reaching 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes, is another strong point of the vehicle.

Finishing and internal design

The Dolphin Mini's internal finish promises to surpass any rival available in Brazil, including already established combustion models. The electric car uses rotating buttons, quality materials such as rubberized plastic, soft-touch fabrics and leather, in addition to featuring an innovative rotating screen for the multimedia center.

Predicted prices

Dealers indicate the following prices for the Dolphin Mini in Brazil:

  • Dolphin Mini 30 kWh with 4 seats: R$89.000
  • Dolphin Mini 30 kWh with 5 seats: R$ 98.900 (arriving in the next few months)
  • Dolphin Mini 38 kWh (Blade Battery) with 4 seats: R$ 114.800

Viewer discretion: There is the possibility of an initial reduction for the version with a 38 kWh Blade battery, potentially placing it at around R$105.

The BYD Dolphin Mini, with its combination of affordable price, innovative features and promising performance, is poised to cause a real stir in the Brazilian electric car market. The company's aggressive pricing strategy BYD for the first batch demonstrates the company's seriousness in establishing a strong presence in Brazil, promising to heat up the competition in the electric vehicle segment.
