Last year, the Central Bank declared a type of bankruptcy in two traditional banks, BRK Financeira and Portocred Financeira. The situation left many investors and account holders concerned about the fate of their money.

The Central Bank confirmed the bankruptcy of two traditional banks, generating an uproar among investors and account holders who have money invested in these institutions. The official announcement came this Wednesday, 24th, detailing the situation of each bank and the steps to be followed by affected customers.

On February 15 last year, the Central Bank decreed the extrajudicial liquidation of BRK Financeira and Portocred Financeira. This bankruptcy process aims to interrupt the functioning of institutions and remove them from the National Financial System. Veritas Regimes de Resolution Empresarial and Cornélio Farias Pimentel were appointed as liquidators to conduct this phase.

Bankruptcy: financial institution is unable to meet its obligations and accumulates significant debts

Extrajudicial liquidation is applied when an institution financial institution is unable to meet its obligations and accumulates significant debts, declaring bankruptcy. In this scenario, the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) comes into action to protect investors. The FGC guarantees the payment of up to R$250 thousand by CPF or CNPJ, providing a safety net for those who have money invested.

According to Estadão's E-Investidor portal, last year, 42 thousand creditors from BRK Financeira and 12 thousand from Portocred Financeira had deposits eligible for payment of the guarantee. Customers can request the guarantee through the FGC website or app, but the money is only released after the liquidators prepare the list of creditors.

In February last year, around 28,5% of the 54 creditors of the two institutions had not yet requested payment of the guarantee. By that date, more than R$1,65 billion had already been paid to approximately 36 creditors.

Current situation

As of April this year, more than six thousand creditors had not yet started the guarantee request process with the FGC, according to the Valor Investe portal. The majority of unclaimed amounts refer to BRK Financeira, totaling R$1,7 billion, while 4.852 people have not yet claimed their guarantees. In the case of Portocred, another bank that declared bankruptcy, there are 2.351 creditors with money forgotten in the FGC.

How to check forgotten values

For account holders and investors who have not yet requested their amounts, the Central Bank provides a platform for consultation. Simply access the Amounts Receivable website (valorareceber.bcb.gov.br) and check if there is any forgotten money.

If you are one of the account holders or investors affected by the bankruptcy of BRK Financeira or Portocred Financeira, be sure to check your situation and request a guarantee for your investments. The Central Bank and the Credit Guarantee Fund are available to help with this process and ensure that no one is left without their money.
