Last Year, The Central Bank Declared Some Sort Of Bankruptcy In Two Traditional Banks, BRK Financeira And Portocred Financeira. The Situation Left Many Investors And Account Holders Worried About Their Money.
The Central Bank confirmed the bankruptcy of two traditional banks, causing an uproar among investors and account holders who have money invested in these institutions. The official announcement came on Wednesday, 24, detailing the situation of each bank and the steps to be followed by affected clients.
On February 15 of last year, the Central Bank ordered the extrajudicial liquidation of BRK Financeira and Portocred Financeira. This bankruptcy process aims to halt the functioning of the institutions and remove them from the National Financial System. Veritas Regimes de Resolução Empresarial and Cornélio Farias Pimentel were appointed as liquidators to handle this phase.
Bankruptcy: Financial Institution Cannot Fulfill Its Obligations And Accumulates Significant Debts

The extrajudicial liquidation is applied when a financial institution cannot fulfill its obligations and accumulates significant debts, declaring bankruptcy. In this scenario, the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) comes into action to protect investors. The FGC guarantees payment of up to R$ 250 thousand per CPF or CNPJ, providing a safety net for those who have money invested.

According to the E-Investidor portal, from Estadão, last year, 42 thousand creditors of BRK Financeira and 12 thousand of Portocred Financeira had deposits eligible for guarantee payment. Clients can request the guarantee through the FGC website or app, but the money is only released after the liquidators prepare the list of creditors.
In February of last year, about 28.5% of the 54 thousand creditors of the two institutions had still not requested payment of the guarantee. By that date, more than R$ 1.65 billion had already been paid to approximately 36 thousand creditors.
Current Situation
As of April this year, more than six thousand creditors had still not initiated the process of requesting the guarantee from FGC, according to the Valor Investe portal. Most of the unclaimed amounts relate to BRK Financeira, totaling R$ 1.7 billion, while 4,852 people have yet to claim their guarantees. In the case of Portocred, another bank that declared bankruptcy, there are 2,351 creditors with forgotten money at FGC.
How To Check For Forgotten Amounts
For account holders and investors who have not yet requested their amounts, the Central Bank provides a platform for consultation. Just visit the Receivable Amounts website (valoresareceber.bcb.gov.br) and check if there is any forgotten money.
If you are one of the account holders or investors affected by the bankruptcy of BRK Financeira or Portocred Financeira, be sure to check your situation and request the guarantee of your investments. The Central Bank and the Credit Guarantee Fund are available to assist in this process and ensure that no one is left without their money.
