Russian Doctor Alla Levushkina Maintains Intense Routine at the Hospital and Stays Active Decades After the Average Retirement Age for the Profession

An uncommon story of dedication to medicine draws attention on the international scene. The Russian surgeon Alla Illyinichna Levushkina, known as Dona Alla, continues working at the age of 90, something extremely rare in the medical profession.

Vehicles such as BBC and Russia Today frequently cite her as one of the oldest active surgeons in the world. Currently, she performs surgeries at the Municipal Hospital of Ryazan, a city located near Moscow, Russia.

Moreover, her career is impressive for its longevity. Alla Levushkina has over 68 years of medical career, always dedicated to the surgical field.

Over 10,000 Surgeries Throughout Her Career

Since the beginning of her journey in medicine, even in her youth, Alla Levushkina has built an extraordinary record of surgical procedures. Over the decades, she has operated on more than 10,000 patients, a number frequently highlighted by reports from the Russian press.

This impressive volume of surgeries represents a lifetime dedicated to medical care and work within surgical centers.

Another point that draws even more attention in her professional journey. According to reports published by Russia Today and the local press from Ryazan, no patient has died during surgeries performed by her or in the immediate postoperative period.

Daily Routine Includes Up to Four Operations Per Day

Even at 90 years old, the surgeon maintains a disciplined routine, similar to that of much younger professionals. Every day, Dona Alla wakes up at 6 a.m. and prepares to arrive at the hospital around 8 a.m., when her medical journey begins.

During her shift, she performs an average of four surgeries per day, maintaining an intense work pace that impresses colleagues and patients.

Even so, the hospital does not occupy all her time. After work, Alla Levushkina dedicates part of her routine to caring for her family and her pets.

Personal Life Marked by Care for Family

Outside the hospital, the doctor lives a simple life in the outskirts of Ryazan. Currently, she lives in a small house with a disabled nephew, whom she takes care of daily.

Additionally, the residence is also home to eight cats, who are part of the household routine and accompany the surgeon’s daily life.

Even with an intense professional schedule, Dona Alla keeps her commitment to caring for her family and animals after work, demonstrating discipline in her personal life as well.

Profession Defined as a Lifestyle

Despite exceeding the average retirement age for doctors in the country by decades, Alla Levushkina does not intend to leave the profession anytime soon. In Russia, many health professionals retire around the age of 55, according to data cited by the Russian press.

Still, the surgeon continues to work about 40 years beyond this national average, maintaining her active hospital routine.

For her, however, continuing to operate does not represent just a job. In interviews reproduced by Russia Today, the doctor summarizes her view of the profession: “being a doctor is not just a profession, it’s a lifestyle.

Given this extraordinary journey, an inevitable question arises: how long will Alla Levushkina continue to enter an operating room daily to save lives?
