The Growth of the Electric Vehicle Sector in Brazil, Driven by the Discussion About the Energy Transition, Now Stimulates Fuel Companies Vibra, Raízen and Ipiranga to Invest in the Creation of Charging Stations Across the Country for the Coming Years.
With an increasing decarbonization scenario in Brazil, fuel companies Vibra, Raízen and Ipiranga are now investing in the expansion of charging stations in Brazil. It is believed that the supply stations for electric vehicles are expected to grow significantly over the next year, as companies have plans to construct new locations all over Brazil for 2023.
Construction of Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles is the New Bet of Vibra, Raízen and Ipiranga for 2023 in Brazil
The use of electric vehicles is gradually becoming more present in the national territory, and with that, the need for the creation of adequate infrastructure for these vehicles is growing. Thus, fuel companies are planning a strong expansion of charging stations across the country, which serve as locations for the refueling of these vehicles and ensure more convenience for battery recharging.
Among the companies, Vibra is one of the main players in the sector, projecting to install 70 charging stations by the end of 2023, with 50 of them on highways. The company intends, with the project, to develop the largest electric corridor for the refueling of such vehicles in Brazil.

Thus, Vibra’s president, Wilson Ferreira Júnior, stated: “The decision to prioritize our operations at highway stations was made because we identified that today the biggest difficulty for electric vehicle users is related to the lack of recharging infrastructure outside urban centers, compromising the user experience over long distances.”
Moreover, the joint venture between Shell and Cosan, Raízen, recently inaugurated its first Shell Recharge electric charging station, at a fast charging station in São Paulo, and has a project to install a network with 35 charging stations of this type by the end of the agricultural year, around March 2023.
The company Ipiranga is also focused on the refueling of electric vehicles in Brazil and currently has a plan to install 40 new charging stations across the country, having finished 2021 with a total of 44 charging stations already in operation.
Companies Vibra, Raízen and Ipiranga Develop Projects to Enable the Growth of Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles in the Country
For the development of its project to create the largest corridor of charging stations in the country, Vibra joined forces with the startup EZVolt and now intends to invest in the construction of charging stations in parking lots, commercial points, shopping malls, and condominiums. Additionally, the current goal of the fuel company is to make electric vehicle charging services available at 25% of its network of stations by 2030.
Meanwhile, Raízen is currently betting on partnerships with Shell and Volkswagen to develop the vehicle electrification chain in the country. Thus, in addition to supporting the installation of charging stations in the country, the company also announced its participation in a R$ 10 million investment round in the startup Tupinambá Energia, for the development of solutions aimed at electric vehicles in the national territory.
Finally, the Ipiranga group is already a national reference in the network of charging stations, with 44 stations in 21 cities across the country, and now intends to build 40 more electric charging points in the states of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul during the coming year.
