Hidreo, A Brazilian Energy Solutions Company, Announced A New Mini Hydroelectric Turbine That Can Generate 220 kWh Per Month And Supply A Medium-Sized Household.
The Hidreo Mini Baixa Queda is the newest hydroelectric turbine manufactured by Hidreo Energy Solutions, a company founded by Brazilians and the largest manufacturer of Micro Hydroelectric Turbines in the country. It is worth noting that the company already has another mini hydroelectric turbine launched on the market in 2018.
Understand How The Domestic Mini Hydroelectric Turbine Works
According to Felipe Wotecoski, one of the engineers and founders of the company, the mini hydroelectric turbine was developed to work in small rivers with minimal elevation differences, being able to generate clean energy with elevation differences of 2.5 meters. This is a different equipment from what the company already produces, being a mini hydroelectric turbine with a propeller inside.
A pipe is fixed at the top in the river with a metal protection to prevent dirt from entering the mini hydroelectric turbine. This pipe carries water to the machine at the bottom, passes through the turbine, and returns to the river without any consumption or contamination. It is important to emphasize that this installation is where there was already a dam, but it is not necessary to dam the water; it is enough to have a difference in elevation between the water intake and its return.

When the water passes through the equipment, it moves the turbine, which drives the generator that produces clean electricity. This electricity can work both on-grid, when using a system connected to the utility company, and off-grid, when there is no connection to the utility company.
The wire from the mini hydroelectric turbine is connected to a control panel, passes through an electronic control board, and is connected to the charge controller, which manages the energy produced by the generator and the load of the batteries, which are connected to the inverter, which, in turn, transforms the energy into 110V or 220V.
New Mini Hydroelectric Turbine Can Deliver Up To 220 kWh/Month
Wotecoski hopes that his new mini hydroelectric turbine can cater to a new range of generation potentials, with much lower elevation differences than what has been served by previous equipment. With energy generation through hydraulic differences, the consumer does not need to worry, as generation is 24 hours a day.
The mini hydroelectric turbine offers the best cost-benefit on the market and, due to its small dimensions and ease of installation, the consumer can use it immediately after purchase.
It is important to highlight that the new mini hydroelectric turbine is an innovative product capable of generating all the energy needed for a medium-sized house (up to 220 kWh/month) from small rivers and streams in nature, but also from pressurized water discharges in industries, water from spillways of lakes and dams, outflows from water treatment stations and effluents, and several other water potentials.
The equipment is a customized modified Kaplan turbine made of galvanized steel with electrostatic painting that ensures better finish, efficiency, and durability.

In 2018, two mechanical engineers from Curitiba capitalized on their skills and knowledge about Brazil’s hybrid capability and developed hydraulic energy generation systems. Together, Felipe Wotecoski and Juliano Rataiczyk created Hidreo, a startup focused on developing technologies for microgeneration of energy.
The duo has developed several equipment that uses elevation difference and water to generate energy in a cheap and accessible manner. A few years ago, they launched the Hidreo Mini on the market, a device capable of supplying even a medium household or drastically reducing the electricity bill.
