Central Bank Evaluates Proposals from Two Countries to Connect Their Systems to Pix, Project That May Start in 2025 and Advance Until 2026
According to reporting by Estadão, two countries have already submitted formal proposals to the Central Bank (BC) to integrate their payment systems into Pix, according to Estadão/Broadcast. The institution’s leadership is still evaluating whether the project will be prioritized, but there is an expectation that it will be included in the development schedule in 2026. The names of the countries were not mentioned in Estadão’s reporting.
If the green light is given, the initial idea would be to start the integration process next year, with no immediate completion date in sight.
The BC acknowledges that the development is complex and would require the reallocation of resources, which could affect other areas considered a priority.

International Demand and Deadlines Under Review
The number of countries interested in Brazilian technology has been growing. However, so far, only two jurisdictions have submitted concrete proposals, with defined timelines for review and execution.
These requests will be submitted to the BC’s collegiate board, which will decide on the technical feasibility and alignment with the strategic objectives of the authority.
Furthermore, the Central Bank emphasizes that external interest demonstrates the consolidation of Pix as a model of efficiency in instant payments, reinforcing Brazil’s role as a reference on the subject.
Internationalization of Pix: Challenges and Resource Limitations
In May, the BC’s Director of Financial System Organization and Resolution, Renato Gomes, stated during an event that the internationalization of Pix still faces significant obstacles.
According to him, it would be necessary to await definitions from major markets, such as the United States and the European Union, before directing “scarce resources” to this type of project.
This caution is explained by the need for the system to adapt to different legislations and financial infrastructures, which requires substantial investments and international coordination.
Discussions in the Global Arena
The topic of cross-border payments has gained prominence in economic forums.
In July, the Brazilian BC, along with other BRICS members, presented a report on the subject at the Financial Track of the bloc, assessing the feasibility of using digital currencies and instruments like Pix in integrated operations between countries.
