Expansion of the production capacity of the factory, in the state of Paraná
Yoshinori Wakitani, president of Sumitomo Rubber do Brasil, says that they strongly believe in the potential of the Brazilian market and hope with the new investment in the factory to further consolidate the brands with the Brazilian consumer, offering products that are a reference in safety and technology.
The factory located in Fazenda Rio Grande, Paraná, operates at the top of its capacity, in three shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making 18 units per day for cars, a volume that should rise to 23/day with investments until 2024. In the case of cargo tires, production now reaches 2,2/day and the forecast is to more than double the volume to 2025/day by XNUMX.

Rodrigo Alonso, sales and marketing director at Dunlop, says that the investments will not only be aimed at increasing production, they will also invest in technology, mainly in compounds that reduce rolling resistance to reduce fuel consumption, as it is something that also interferes with all the processes of the factory.
Great growth and market demand
Alonso says that so far they have managed to keep production at a high pace despite the problems brought on by the pandemic. There are no leftover inputs in the world today, but there was no lack of production. However, it got more expensive. As Brazil does not have enough production and natural rubber, we need to import and deal with some ship delays, says the company's sales director.
Currently, Brazilian cars from Volkswagen, Toyota and Fiat leave the factory with Dunlop or Falken tires (a brand focused on off-road), as well as heavy models from Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus (VWCO), Iveco and Marcopolo. According to the director, exports from Brazil have marginal volumes, few replacement units are shipped to neighboring Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia. “The priority of our investments in the factories at the moment is to serve the Brazilian market”, informs Alonso, adding that the expansion and hiring processes that involve the R$ 1 billion program should start gradually in 2022.
