Enel SP Will Invest Over R$ 10 Million and Celebrates the Start of Works to Expand the Energy Supply Capacity of the Substation in Sumaré, Benefiting 24 Thousand Customers and Generating Numerous Jobs
Enel Distribuição SP began the works to expand the energy supply capacity of the Sumaré substation this Tuesday (27), in the West Zone of SP. The project will receive an investment of R$ 10.6 million and, in addition to generating numerous jobs for the population, will benefit approximately 24 thousand customers in six neighborhoods of São Paulo. The works are expected to be completed in March of next year.

The goal of Enel’s works is to expand the supply capacity of the Sumaré substation by 20 Megavolt Ampere (MVA). Technicians will replace three 15/20 MVA transformers with two 32/40 MVA transformers.
Additionally, they will also install a digital protection and control system so that the Sumaré substation can operate remotely by the Distribution Operations Center of the utility in Barueri (SP). According to Vincenzo Ruotolo, responsible for Infrastructure and Networks at the utility, Enel SP’s project for the expansion and implementation of new technologies at the Sumaré substation will contribute to enhancing the reliability of the energy system while also keeping pace with consumer market growth in the region.

Enel SP Modernizes Its Substations
This month, in addition to the works in Sumaré, Enel SP has also started modernization works at the Regis substation in the municipality of Itapecerica da Serra, part of the São Paulo metropolitan area.
In this project, which also generated numerous jobs, approximately R$ 4.3 million was invested and it benefited about 34.5 thousand customers from the municipalities of Embu, Juquitiba, São Paulo, São Lourenço da Serra, and Itapecerica. The distributor has a plan for improvements and modernization of its energy systems and last year alone applied over R$ 900 million, a 9.5% increase compared to 2019.
The resources invested by the company aim to optimize the reactive capacity of the substation, enhancing the quality of the energy supplied by constructing a Capacitor Bank (EBC) and installing 145 kV circuit breakers and switches.
