Toyota Yaris Cross Arrives with Two Feet in the Door: New Mini SUV Has Just Been Registered in the Brazilian Market, Will Be Cheaper than the Creta and Renegade, and Promises to Sell Like Hotcakes
Yaris Cross is finally registered and will mark Toyota’s debut in compact SUVs in Brazil, shaking up the segment and annihilating rivals Creta and Renegade. Without a doubt, the launch of the Toyota Yaris Cross has everything to stand out as one of the most popular cars in Brazil. This highly anticipated SUV promises to stir up the national automotive market with its various versions and configurations.
After confirmations and sightings in tests on Brazilian roads, the design of Toyota’s SUV was officially registered by the Japanese automaker at the INPI – National Institute of Industrial Property.

Yaris Cross Will Be the Cheapest Car from Toyota in Brazil and Promises to Sell Like Hotcakes
The Toyota Yaris Cross will be the cheapest car from the brand in Brazilian territory, positioned below the Corolla Cross. This mini SUV will be the third vehicle from the brand to feature a hybrid-flex engine in Brazil, distinguishing itself from the Corolla lineup.

While much of the industry rushes to automate production, Rolls-Royce takes over 600 hours to hand-build each car in Goodwood and still accepts orders so complex that they can take up to four years to be completed.

Smaller than the Model Y, lighter, with a single motor and designed to cost less than the current Model 3, Tesla’s new compact electric SUV is born in China and could seal the automaker’s return to the race for mass-market electric vehicles.

Kawasaki took the technology from its most brutal racing bikes, squeezed it into a 400cc 4-cylinder engine that revs to 15,000 RPM, and created the ZX-4R, a machine that shouldn’t exist in this displacement but is making experienced riders rethink everything they thought they knew about mid-range motorcycles.

The culture of cars that jump on the asphalt was born in the garages of Mexicans in the 1940s, was treated as a crime in the United States for decades, and has now become an official postage stamp of the American Postal Service in a twist that no one expected.
With a promising future in the country, the Toyota Yaris Cross is set to be a true sales success and will be cheaper than its competitors Hyundai Creta, Jeep Renegade, and Honda WR-V.
The Secrets of the Engine of the New Mini SUV That Achieves 20 km/l from the Japanese Automaker
The technical specifications of the Yaris Cross have not yet been released, but it is said that the compact SUV from Toyota will be equipped with a 1.5-liter aspirated flex engine in conjunction with an electric motor. This system is expected to provide a combined power of 113 hp, and the vehicle will feature an e-CVT transmission. Despite the official registration, its production will only begin in 2025.
The choice of the hybrid version for the mini SUV was not by chance. “I think it’s important to remember that our electrification index is increasing, because it’s not the future, it’s the present,” said Chang, president of Toyota in Brazil, during the event. “For us, it’s more than just a new technology since there’s a real carbon reduction.”
Compact SUV Will Arrive in Brazil with the Same Design Already Marketed in Asian Markets
The SUV will arrive in Brazil with the same design already marketed in Asian markets. At the front, there is a trapezoidal grille with a diamond finish, along with LED headlights with DRL and fog lights.
At the rear, the design is simpler, lacking connected taillights or similar features. The dimensions of the Toyota Yaris Cross include: 4,310 mm in length, 2,620 mm in wheelbase, 1,620 mm in height, and 1,770 mm in width. Internally, the compact SUV displays a discreet finish; however, it comes with a floating multimedia center that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a partially digital instrument panel, an electronic parking brake (absent in the Corolla), a Pioneer sound system, and even a panoramic sunroof.
The Mini SUV’s Safety Promises to Be on Par with Its Bigger Brother, the Corolla Cross
In terms of safety, the new Toyota Yaris Cross is expected to include six airbags and elements of the TSS (Toyota Safety System) also present in the Corolla Cross models, offering features such as autonomous emergency braking, blind spot warning, and lane departure warning. The vehicle will also feature 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels and air conditioning with rear ventilation ducts.
To Produce the Yaris Cross in Brazil, Toyota Is Investing R$ 1.63 Billion in Factories in São Paulo
The arrival of the Yaris Cross should help Toyota grow a bit in the Brazilian market. Chang envisions sustainable growth, but is not overly concerned with market share, which is currently 8.68% only for passenger cars and 9.03% including light commercial vehicles. For the executive, the goal is to serve customers and be sustainable.
To produce the Yaris Cross in Brazil, Toyota is investing R$ 1.63 billion in both the Sorocaba (SP) and Porto Feliz (SP) plants, the latter being responsible for the engines used in the national cars.
Production Is Scheduled to Start in December 2024
After revealing that the launch is expected at the end of next year, Rafael Chang, president of the brand in the country, stated that production is scheduled to start in December 2024.
It is worth noting that the launch of the Yaris Cross in Brazil was delayed until early 2025 due to delays in the development schedule and the security testing fraud scandal that affected Daihatsu, Toyota’s Asian subsidiary responsible for the global project of the model.
With the confirmation of the registration at Inpi and the disclosure of new details, the Toyota Yaris Cross consolidates as one of the most promising options in the compact SUV segment in Brazil.
