General Motors also states that it is completely updating the factory to make it one of the most efficient in the world. According to Malka, since 2017, General Motors has been transforming this, one of the first automotive factories in Brazil. The result of these five years of work is an almost century-old factory capable of competing with any factory in the world.
The new generation of the Montana pickup will be more sophisticated and also larger, aiming to compete with the Toro and positioning itself above the compact Saveiro and Strada. The pickup will be developed based on the GEM platform, the same used by the Onix, Onix Plus, and Tracker, will have a monocoque base, and is expected to deliver passenger car comfort, but with a truck bed.
Under the hood, a 1.2 turbo engine with up to 133 horsepower and 21.4 kgfm is expected. General Motors has not yet announced when the new Montana pickup will hit the automotive market; however, the expectation is that the model will be fully revealed in 2022.
General Motors May Shut Down the São Caetano do Sul Factory Until August
In June of this year, the automaker reached an agreement involving 400 employees based on MP 1.045, which allows the suspension of activities at the São Caetano do Sul factory for 120 days, with a validity period until this Monday (26).
Thus, if GM resorts to this measure, vehicle production in São Caetano do Sul will only resume on August 26, according to statements from the president of the local metalworkers’ union, Aparecido Inácio da Silva. This is all due to the lack of semiconductor microchips that has been affecting various automakers around the world, especially GM, which has stopped producing its Chevrolet Tracker, Onix Joy, Onix Joy Plus, and Spin models.
