Chinese Giant Mixue, Largest Ice Cream and Tea Chain in the World by Number of Stores, Launches in Brazil with Investment of R$ 3.2 Billion, Promising Prices Up to 40% Lower than the Competition.

The Chinese giant Mixue officially lands in Brazil and promises to intensify the competition in the fast food sector. According to a report from Notícias do Planalto, the Asian ice cream and tea chain already has 53,000 units in 13 countries, surpassing McDonald’s and Starbucks in number of stores, and is now betting on the Brazilian market as its first major step outside the Asia-Pacific region.

The planned investment is R$ 3.2 billion by 2030, with an estimated 25,000 direct and indirect jobs. The first unit will be inaugurated at Shopping Cidade São Paulo, on Avenida Paulista, serving as a showcase for an aggressive expansion across the country.

Pricing Strategy and Business Model

One of Mixue’s main differentiators is its verticalized franchise model.

The brand controls the entire supply chain — from production to delivery to franchisees — which reduces costs and ensures prices much lower than those of competitors.

An ice cream or drink can cost up to 40% less than in traditional chains, a factor that can attract price-sensitive consumers amid the tight income scenario in Brazil.

The chain also announced that it will invest US$ 555 million in the purchase of Brazilian coffee and agricultural inputs to supply its operations, strengthening its presence in the country with local production and reducing reliance on imports.

Youthful Menu and Pop Aesthetic

Mixue bets on a menu focused on the youth audience, with options that combine vibrant aesthetics and affordable prices.

Among the highlights are creamy ice creams, colorful lemonades, fruit teas, and bubbles (tapioca balls), drinks that went viral on social media and captured the attention of the Generation Z.

Another differentiator is the “Snow King” mascot, created in 2018, which became the brand’s symbol and is present on packaging, cups, and store decor.

This strong visual identity reinforces the digital strategy and increases the company’s presence on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Impact on the Brazilian Market

Experts believe that Mixue’s arrival could transform the fast food dynamics in Brazil, currently dominated by American chains.

According to Professor Roberto Kanter (FGV), the combination of affordable pricing with Brazil’s franchise tradition creates a favorable environment for the brand’s expansion.

Meanwhile, Luiz Guanais of BTG Pactual notes that the biggest challenge will be adapting the menu to local taste, something Starbucks had to do by including cheese bread instead of donuts.

If it manages this adaptation, Mixue could establish itself as one of the largest fast food chains in the country.

What to Expect from Chinese Giant Mixue in Brazil

With a global network larger than McDonald’s and Starbucks, an integrated business model, and prices up to 40% lower, the Chinese giant Mixue arrives in Brazil at an advantage to compete for the preference of the urban middle class.

If it secures space in shopping malls and large centers, it could quickly become one of the main players in the national fast food sector.

And you, do you believe that the Chinese giant Mixue will win over Brazilian consumers and truly threaten chains like McDonald’s and Starbucks? Share your opinion in the comments — we want to hear from those who live this daily competition.
