The renowned power plant at Porto do Açu has been authorized by the RJ government; the thermal power plant is popularly known as GNA I, operated by Gás Natural Açu, which has shareholders Prumo Logística, BP, and Siemens.

It is part of an electric park that will feature two gas thermal plants together, with assets reaching 3 GW of installed capacity.

“We are very happy to have obtained the operating license for our first project. Due to the pandemic, construction was suspended when we had over 5,000 workers, and we managed to resume with great responsibility, safety, and no accidents,” said GNA’s Regulatory Director, Guilherme Penteado, in a statement.

The license granted by the state government provides for the operation of the plant to be carried out from seawater desalination to reduce environmental impact. GNA also has authorization to double the installed capacity of the thermal park in the future.

The GNA I thermal power plant will consist of 3 gas turbines and 1 steam turbine that, together, will be responsible for generating 1.3 GW in combined cycle, which contributes to increasing the efficiency of energy generation.

The energy generated by the GNA I thermal power plant will be connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) through a 345 kV Transmission Line, approximately 52 km long, at the Campos dos Goytacazes substation.
