Açu Port Thermoelectric Plant (UTE GNA I) Obtains Permission from MME to Import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Between 2020 and 2022
The GNA I thermoelectric plant being built at the Açu Port in São João da Barra (RJ) received authorization from the government, through the MME, to purchase up to 5.8 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from abroad.
The gas would arrive at the thermoelectric plant via a FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) vessel that would offload it at Terminal 2 of Açu Port.
The GNA I thermoelectric plant belongs to Prumo Logística, BP, and Siemens, and has been authorized to import gas from March 1, 2020, to June 30, 2022.
The MME imposed the condition that the company present a detailed report on the import operations conducted in the previous month to the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) by the twenty-fifth of each month.

The Açu Thermoelectric Complex
The UTE GNA I is part of the Açu Thermoelectric Complex, will have a capacity of 1.3 GW, and will include an LNG regasification terminal, a transmission line, and a substation that will connect the unit to the National Interconnected System (SIN).
The Açu complex will also feature a second unit, GNA II, which will have a capacity of 1.7 GW when completed.
At the end of April, the project at Açu reached a major milestone. Considered the heart of the plant, the gas turbine, which is the most efficient of its kind to arrive in Brazil, landed at the Multicargas Terminal, located at Açu Port.
