Honeywell Accelerates Energy Transition in Brazil with Forum on SAF, Biorefineries and Decarbonization Goals, Highlighting Strategic Partnerships and the Fuel of the Future Program.
Honeywell emphasizes that technology can play a fundamental role in accelerating the energy transition, especially in the Brazilian context. According to company executives, Brazil has significant potential to lead international efforts towards decarbonization, using technological innovations to promote the use of renewable energy sources. The adoption of these technologies would not only help mitigate the impacts of climate change but also strengthen Brazil’s position on the global sustainable energy stage.
At an event held in São Paulo on August 30, 2024, the importance of the energy transition was highlighted with emphasis on the implementation opportunities for biorefineries and decarbonization goals. Honeywell pointed out essential strategic partnerships to drive this energy migration, connecting the use of new fuels with carbon footprint reduction. Energy transformation is already a reality, and thanks to the Fuel of the Future program, Brazil has all the necessary tools to take a leadership position in this global process.
This is Honeywell’s thinking, which brought together, on August 13 and 15, experts, clients, and partners at the São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro editions of the Net Zero Forum, held in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil (Amcham-Brasil).

Discussions on Sustainability at the Net Zero Forum
During the two days of this important event, global leaders focused on debating critical issues that can accelerate the energy transition, promoting a more sustainable world. Among the highlighted strategies, the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) emerged as one of the most promising paths to achieving this energy change.
Investments in Renewable Fuel Production
One of the companies at the forefront of this energy transformation is Acelen Renováveis, established by Mubadala Capital. To drive energy migration, Acelen is investing over US$ 3 billion in the creation of the first integrated unit for producing renewable fuels from macaúba, a native Brazilian plant with high oil yield.
Annual Production and Future Goals
Through this biorefinery, it is expected to achieve an annual production of 1 billion liters of fuels by 2027, which will significantly contribute to the decarbonization of the aviation sector. The leaders present, such as the executive from Atvos, emphasized in a panel moderated by Honeywell, highlighted that Brazil has immense potential to become a central player in SAF production, due to the abundance of natural inputs and the support from incentives and governmental mandates that promote competitiveness.
Government Support and Incentive Programs
Among the incentive programs, Brazil’s ‘Fuel of the Future’ program (PL 528/2020) is fundamental. This program aims to increase the use of SAF and green diesel to reduce GHG emissions in the transportation sector. In August, Senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo proposed an amendment to the bill establishing decarbonization goals using SAF, starting with a target of 1% in 2027 and gradually increasing to 10% by 2037.
Advances Towards Energy Transition
‘Even though these advances may seem modest, we believe they are crucial steps in the energy transition, essential to position Brazil as a global leader in the decarbonization agenda,’ stated José Fernandes, CEO of Honeywell for Latin America. The company remains committed to supporting this mission through strategic partnerships, sustainable solutions, and continuous investments in cutting-edge technology.
