Smartphone bets on above-average battery, high-brightness screen, and still not officially detailed chip to compete in the mid-range segment with a focus on autonomy, visual fluidity, and balanced configurations oriented to daily use and multitasking.
HONOR launched the HONOR X80i for sale in China on April 2, betting on an uncommon combination in the mid-range: a 7,000 mAh battery, a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1200 x 2600 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, in addition to the new Dimensity 6500 Elite, a chip that appears in the manufacturer’s materials before a formal detailed presentation from MediaTek itself.
The debut started in the Chinese market, with prices starting at 1,999 yuan.
The launch draws attention because the manufacturer tries to balance battery life, screen, and finish in a thin device for the category.

On the official product page, HONOR states a thickness of 7.34 mm, a weight of 185 grams, and a construction with a metal frame, while the brand’s Chinese website positions the model as a “metal small straight screen,” a term used to highlight the straight visual and focus on a cleaner design.
AMOLED 120 Hz screen and high brightness stand out

Among the confirmed highlights is the 6.6-inch OLED panel, with a color depth of 1.07 billion colors and a resolution classified by the company as 1.5K.
HONOR also announces a peak brightness of 6,500 nits, a feature aimed primarily at visibility in HDR content and very bright environments, and a 120 Hz refresh rate, a characteristic that tends to favor navigation and visual response in light apps and games.
7,000 mAh battery targets prolonged use
The battery is another central point of the technical specifications.
The brand’s official store states a typical capacity of 7,000 mAh, while promotional materials reported by specialized outlets mention a promise of up to 22 hours of video playback and support for 45 W charging.
In a segment where many competitors still operate with smaller cells, HONOR’s strategy is clearly to associate the X80i with long usage duration without sacrificing a relatively thin body.
Dimensity 6500 Elite emerges without complete detail
The most curious component of the launch is the Dimensity 6500 Elite.
HONOR lists this processor on the official X80i page, but the current showcase of the Dimensity line on MediaTek’s website does not display a model with that name, so far.

The manufacturer’s public catalog shows the Dimensity 6000 family with options like the Dimensity 6400, indicating that the 6500 Elite had not yet been officially detailed by the partner at the time the phone was announced.
This absence of more complete public documentation limits more precise technical comparisons.
Still, the presence of the new commercial name reinforces HONOR’s attempt to differentiate the device amid entry-level launches with already known platforms.
In practice, the promise is of sufficient performance for everyday tasks, social media, streaming, moderate multitasking, and lighter games, without the X80i being presented as a phone aimed at the gamer segment.
The company offers four memory and storage combinations.
The model starts with 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB, goes up to 8 GB + 256 GB, then 12 GB + 256 GB, and reaches 12 GB + 512 GB.
This range of options places the device in a broader position within the portfolio, allowing the brand to cater to consumers looking for a lower starting price as well as those wanting more internal space without migrating to a higher line.
50 MP camera takes center stage
In photography, the X80i adopts a more restrained approach. The official specification available on HONOR’s store cites a single 50-megapixel rear camera, with an aperture of f/1.8, and an 8-megapixel front sensor, with an aperture of f/2.0.

This description differs from initial reports that mentioned two rear cameras, as the official material available at launch highlights only one main sensor on the back.
This helps explain the positioning of the device.
Instead of trying to compete on the number of lenses, HONOR focuses communication on battery, display, and design.
The choice suggests a product aimed at daily use, with a main camera sufficient for casual shots, video calls, and social media, but without the ambition to compete with more expensive models in photographic versatility.
Straight design, varied colors, and metal construction
Visually, the new model follows a language that the company has been exploring in other recent devices.
The X80i appears in black, green, white, and pink, with straight edges and a simple camera module design.
The brand’s promotional material highlights the metal frame and reinforces an appeal of durability and sophistication above what is usually communicated in more affordable phones.
Reports published on the announcement day also mention complementary features such as IP66 certification, stereo sound, and NFC, but some of these items do not appear as clearly in the public specifications excerpt captured from the official page accessible via the browser.
Therefore, the central data of the launch remains anchored in what HONOR directly confirms in its showcase and what has been consistently replicated by specialized coverage of the announcement.
Price and versions available in China
At its Chinese debut, the HONOR X80i was listed for 1,999 yuan for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
The other configurations were priced at 2,199 yuan for 8 GB + 256 GB, 2,499 yuan for 12 GB + 256 GB, and 2,799 yuan for 12 GB + 512 GB.
So far, the launch has been concentrated in China, with no formal confirmation of international availability in the consulted material.
Within this package, HONOR’s bet is clear.
The X80i tries to stand out less for the camera or elite features and more for a set of items that usually weigh in the purchasing decision of a large part of the public: advanced screen, high-capacity battery, ample storage, and a new chip used as a commercial differential.
