PAE Inaugurates Novo Horizonte Wind Complex in Bahia, the Largest in the Company with 10 Wind Farms, 94 Turbines, and Capacity of 2 Million Megawatt-Hours.

Pan American Energy has just inaugurated the Novo Horizonte Wind Complex, located in the heart of Bahia. This is the largest project the company has ever undertaken, featuring infrastructure that includes 10 wind farms and its own electrical substation. With a significant investment of R$ 3 billion, the venture promises to be a landmark in the region’s energy sector, in addition to strengthening Pan American Energy’s presence in the renewable energy market.

The inauguration event was attended by various authorities from the federal, state, and municipal governments, marking an important moment for PAE. The construction of these wind farms represents a significant advancement in the use of clean and sustainable energy sources. With a robust production capacity, the complex will generate enough energy to supply thousands of households, establishing itself as a fundamental pillar for the development of the state. Pan American Energy continues to lead initiatives pointing towards a more sustainable and efficient future.

Inauguration of the Novo Horizonte Wind Complex

Bahia, July 3, 2024 – Pan American Energy (PAE) celebrated on Wednesday, the 3rd, the inauguration of the Novo Horizonte Wind Complex, its first major project in Brazil, which unites 10 distinct wind farms and totals an impressive investment of R$ 3 billion. This complex, located in Bahia, is the largest for Pan American Energy worldwide, covering a vast area of 2,700 hectares and extending across six different municipalities. Equipped with 94 turbines distributed among 10 farms, it has enough capacity to supply up to one million Brazilian households.

Inauguration Ceremony and Presence of Authorities

The inauguration ceremony featured the esteemed presence of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the Governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, the CEO of the PAE Group, Marcos Bulgheroni, and the general director of PAE Brazil, Alejandro Catalano, in addition to over 100 guests. In his speech, Marcos Bulgheroni emphasized that Pan American Energy aims to be a protagonist in the energy transition in the region. He highlighted that the launch of this complex is a decisive step in this direction, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Just as in Brazil, Pan American Energy will continue to expand its natural gas production in Argentina. This fuel is of significant importance both for local economic development and for reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. Bulgheroni stressed that natural gas can play a crucial role in the decarbonization of global economies due to its low emissions.

Transmission System and Sustainability

The transmission system of the Novo Horizonte Wind Complex includes the construction of a new substation for electricity, spanning 80 kilometers of high-voltage lines. Additionally, an existing substation has been expanded, integrating the complex into the National Interconnected System. This joint effort will enable the Novo Horizonte Complex to achieve an annual production of 2 million megawatt-hours, corresponding to an annual reduction of over 500,000 tons of CO2.

Alejandro Catalano, general director of PAE in Brazil, reiterated Pan American Energy’s long-term commitment to Brazil and the communities neighboring the complex. He emphasized that the company intends to continue investing in the country, with several projects under evaluation, including the construction of a solar park near the wind complex, transforming it into a large hybrid park with a total installed capacity of 800 megawatts.

Expansion and Commitments to the Community

Catalano took the opportunity to thank the team of collaborators who worked on the project, emphasizing that the work was completed on schedule, with a focus on safety and environmental responsibility. During the 20 months of construction, Pan American Energy created over 3,200 jobs, prioritizing local labor. Furthermore, it implemented 30 socio-environmental programs that directly benefit over 4,700 people in 52 communities near the complex.

Of the R$ 3 billion invested in the venture, R$ 1.2 billion was financed through loans from BNDES and the Banco do Nordeste, while R$ 1.8 billion came from Pan American Energy’s own resources. These investments in renewable energy are part of PAE’s long-term vision to actively participate in the energy transition, generating jobs and income for local communities. Pan American Energy provided technical courses for over 200 people, in partnership with SENAI and local municipalities since 2023, through the PAE Capacita program. These courses in professional qualifications include theoretical and practical classes, tailored to community demands, aiming for opportunities in public and private companies and entrepreneurship.
