The Connection to the Grid for Hollandse Kust (West) Alpha Is Ready for Commissioning After Receiving the Network Readiness Certificate.

The network readiness certification for Hollandse Kust (West) Alpha was received by TenneT earlier than expected, allowing the grid connection to be finalized three months ahead of schedule. As a result, the wind farm operator Ecowende will be able to connect the wind turbines, located approximately 50 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee, to the TenneT infrastructure.

The Hollandse Kust (West) Alpha grid, which is in the commissioning process, will allow for more efficient wind energy generation, contributing to sustainable energy production in the region. The initial completion forecast for the connectivity was set for the first quarter of 2024, but the network readiness certificate was received before the 2023 holidays, bringing the deadline forward.

The connection of the ‘offshore power plug’ to the national power grid, officially ready for use after a series of extensive tests, marks an important milestone in the development of the Hollandse Kust (West) project. The joint venture Ecowende, comprised of Shell and Eneco, is responsible for developing this wind farm offshore, which will consist of 52 wind turbines with a combined capacity of over 760 MW. Vestas will supply the 15 MW turbines, and the installation of these turbines is a crucial step in the progress of this project.

Cable Connection and Power Supply

The cable connection reaching the shore at Heemskerk/Wijk aan Zee allows for power supply to this new part of the grid from the high-voltage substation along the A9, near Beverwijk. This milestone represents a significant advancement in integrating energy generated from renewable sources, such as offshore wind farms, into the national grid.
