The LD Celulose Factory Is Under Construction In Minas Gerais And Promises To Be The Largest Industrial Line Of Soluble Pulp At A Global Level, Generating Thousands Of Jobs
The new soluble pulp industry will likely be operational soon in Minas Gerais, ensuring many job opportunities. With only 10% left to complete the work, the joint venture between Duratex and the Austrian company Lenzing, which is being established in the municipality of Indianópolis in the Triângulo Mineiro, is set to be the largest industrial line of pulp in the world, given that the plant received investments of approximately US$ 1.3 billion.

The company states only that production will occur in the first half of this year, following the planning. However, according to information, it will start as early as March. The plant will generate 1,040 direct jobs as soon as it is completed, which will set the entire economy of the region in motion. Currently, the construction process is employing more than 9,600 workers, meaning it has already been responsible for creating many jobs in Minas Gerais.
LD Celulose emphasizes: “The impressive numbers do not stop there. The amount of cables used would be enough to connect Oiapoque to Chuí, totaling 4,490 kilometers in length. And the eucalyptus plantation farms – the raw material for pulp production – will together cover approximately 70,000 hectares of planting.”

Production Capacity Of The Industry In Minas Gerais
The production capacity of the unit will be, when operational, 500 thousand tons of soluble pulp per year. Additionally, the production process will generate approximately 144 megawatts (MW) of renewable electrical energy through wood biomass – over half of this amount will be sold and distributed not only in Minas Gerais but across the national grid.
According to Luís Künzel, CEO of LD Celulose, the project was entirely designed to become a model of sustainability and excellence, considering production methods and the contribution to job creation in Minas Gerais. He states that the project was strategically planned regarding the location of the industry – near the railway line and within the forest massif of Minas Gerais – and the establishment of sustainable practices from the beginning.
“It will be an extremely modern unit in technology and processes, advanced in performance and cost optimization and a reference in its environmental characteristics. Another feature will be the capacity to generate electrical energy from biomass. We will supply the factory and still sell clean energy to the market,” Luís declares.
