After 14 Years, The Tundra Pickup, Which Was The Best-Selling By Toyota, Will Get A New Generation That Is More Robust And Uses More Modern Technologies

The Tundra, the largest pickup ever sold by Toyota worldwide, will get a new generation. After an image leaked online and left many people with a “bug in their ear,” the automaker decided to clear up all doubts and confirmed the new version of the Tundra.

The new Toyota Tundra has gained a more robust and modern look to compete with its rivals in the United States such as the Ford F-150 and the RAM 1500. So far, only three official photos of the pickup have been released: one of the front, another showing the interior, focusing on the multimedia center and the rearview mirror, and another of the engine cover.

From the photos, it is noticeable that the new generation of the Tundra has received LED headlights, which bring a more aggressive style to the pickup, as well as a new front grille that is wider than in previous versions.

A 400-Horsepower Engine May Surprise Consumers

Toyota has not revealed the dimensions of the pickup, but it is possible to create a base of what will come in the new Tundra based on the previous models. There is a strong possibility it will be 5.81m long, 2.07m wide, 1.92m tall, and have a wheelbase of 3.70m. It could weigh up to 2,780 kg and have a capacity of 1,510 liters in the bed.

According to the first news about the pickup, Toyota plans to equip the Tundra with new V6 engines with up to 412 horsepower, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. For reference, the 2021 model has a V8 engine with 386 hp.

Tundra In Fifth Place In U.S. Sales

The expectation is that the new lineup of the pickup will be produced in the second half of 2021, with sales starting at the end of the year. In 2020 alone, around 110,000 units were sold in the United States, a number that places the Toyota Tundra pickup in fifth place in a ranking led by the F-150.

The Tundra is produced entirely in San Antonio, Texas, and it is very likely that it will not reach Brazilian territory. The model had its first unit manufactured at the Princeton plant in Indiana in May 1999.

The production line had the capacity to deliver around 120,000 cars per year, double the volume of the T100, and the pickup achieved one of the highest initial sales among all cars ever offered by Toyota.
