Vitória-Minas Train Will Gain New Stop in Itabira and Expand Night Service Between Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Journey Covers 664 Km in 13 Hours and Is One of the Longest in the Country.
The city of Itabira (MG) will become part of the itinerary of the night train on the Vitória-Minas line, expanding the service of the railway that connects Minas Gerais to Espírito Santo.
According to information published by the IG portal, the inclusion was confirmed after negotiations by the Metabase Union, with support from Aposvale, and will be effective during peak demand periods, anticipated for January and July 2026.
The operation will be made by transfer in Nova Era (Desembargador Drummond Station), where passengers from Itabira can board to continue their trip on the night train towards Greater Vitória.

Volunteers are sought to live in the mountains for a month: a study pays people to stay at 2,500 meters, with 24-hour monitoring of sleep, metabolism, and blood pressure.
The night train, announced by Vale as a second schedule of the service, was created to meet the increase in passenger numbers during summer and mid-year vacations.
The tickets for the new service will go on sale starting on November 15, according to information provided by the company to representatives of Metabase and Aposvale.
The exact departure and arrival times have not yet been officially announced.
Itabira Joins the Map of the Vitória-Minas Night Train

The integration of Itabira meets a long-standing request from residents and workers in the region who use the train as an alternative to road transport.
According to the president of Metabase, André Viana Madeira, the night transfer in Nova Era will follow the model already practiced during the day, allowing connection with the main train heading to Cariacica (ES), in the Metropolitan Region of Vitória.
He stated that including Itabira should favor the movement of passengers from the Médio Piracicaba region, in addition to contributing to an increase in the availability of seats during high-demand periods.
What Is the Journey Like on the Vitória-Minas Train?
Operated daily by Vale, the Vitória-Minas line covers 664 kilometers between Belo Horizonte (MG) and Cariacica (ES), in a journey that lasts about 13 hours and passes through rivers, valleys, and mountains of the Atlantic Forest.
Along the route, the train serves 30 boarding and disembarking stations in both states.
The train consists of economy and executive cars, both equipped with air conditioning, and features a snack bar and restaurant, according to the current operating model.
According to information from Vale, the train is used by both tourists and local residents who seek regular transportation between cities in the interior of Minas and Espírito Santo.
Prices and Benefits for Passengers

The ticket prices for the full route between Belo Horizonte and Cariacica are currently R$ 81 (economy class) and R$ 116 (executive class), according to the latest information from the operator.
For partial routes, prices vary according to distance.
As per the Senior Citizen Statute, Vale offers two free tickets per journey in economy class for people aged 60 or older and with an income of up to two minimum wages.
When the quota is filled, the eligible passenger can purchase the ticket with a 50% discount.
The company also allows boarding with one suitcase weighing up to 32 kilos and one carry-on bag at no additional cost.
There are also cars adapted for wheelchair users and seats designated for people with reduced mobility.
New Schedule Is Part of the Railway Concession
The creation of the night train in January and July is part of the obligations of the new concession contract for the Vitória a Minas Railway, renewed by Vale with the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).
The agreement provides for improvements in passenger transportation and an expansion of available schedules.
Vale reported that the night operation will not take place in 2025, being scheduled only for the beginning of 2026, seasonally.
According to Metabase, this measure addresses the growing demand for travel between Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, especially during school vacations and the summer.
For Itabira, the change creates a new option for regional travel.
Boarding will be done up to Nova Era, where passengers can connect to the night train to Espírito Santo.
The departure times in Belo Horizonte and Cariacica, mentioned preliminarily by union representatives, still depend on official confirmation from the operator.
Planning and Start of Sales
Those who intend to travel on the new service should pay attention to two main points.
First, the start of sales on November 15 refers exclusively to the night schedule during high season.
Second, since the schedule has not yet been published, it is recommended to follow Vale’s official channels to confirm departures and connections.
The day service on the Vitória-Minas line will continue operating normally, with the same characteristics and current structure.
Rail tourism experts point out that the route remains one of the main examples of passenger transport in continuous operation in the country, combining touristic purpose and regional integration.
With the inclusion of Itabira and the operation of the seasonal night train, the expectation is for an increase in the number of users during vacations.
