This Friday (30), the governor of MS, Reinaldo Azambuja, alongside the secretary, Jaime Verruck, from Semagro, signed an agreement term from the State Government with the company, confirming the fiscal incentives outlined in MS Empreendedor. The ethanol plant, Neomille, is a project of CerradinhoBio, one of the largest bioenergy production complexes in Latin America.
In total, R$ 1 billion will be invested in the plant in Maracaju. The plant will bring to MS about 150 direct job opportunities and more than 500 indirect jobs through outsourced services. At the peak of construction, around 2,000 job opportunities will be generated in civil construction. The ethanol plant will be built alongside the MS-157 highway on an area of 115 hectares.

The estimated annual processing is 1.2 million tons of corn upon the completion of the plant’s implementation, with more than 510,000 cubic meters/year of ethanol produced. When operational, the plant is expected to generate 100 Gigawatts of energy and produce corn oil.
Authorities Comment on the New Investment
For Secretary Jaime Verruck, corn ethanol will add value to the grain and provide income to the raw material producers. There is a need for expansion in corn production due to the installation of the new plant as well as another one that will be built in Douradas.
According to CerradinhoBio’s CEO, Paulo Motta, the privileged location for obtaining raw materials and for distributing products, combined with a favorable business environment, were the decisive factors for the company to choose the municipality in MS.
According to the executive, Maracaju is the largest corn producer in the state and has excellent conditions for purchasing biomass and marketing co-products. The unit will bring more opportunities for farmers and livestock businesses, stated Motta.
According to the company’s schedule, over the next few months, the environmental licensing process will be conducted alongside Imasul, with the beginning of the construction of the first phase of the unit expected in March of next year and completion in August 2023.
MS Towards Sustainability
CerradinhoBio’s project, known as the Greenfield Project, follows international sustainability standards and aims to reduce its carbon emissions to zero.
According to the secretary of Semagro, the project is fully included in its Carbon Neutral State program and was designed to generate less impact on the environment. It is located near a high-voltage power line, considering it will produce biomass energy. To make this possible, the project will use eucalyptus, encouraging a new production chain in the region.
The ceremony in Maracaju was attended by the Secretary of Infrastructure, Eduardo Riedel, the Manager of Grain Origination and Agricultural Business, Eduardo Paiva, the Director of New Business and Strategic Planning of CerradinhoBio, Renato Henrique Pretti, and the Mayor Marcos Calderan.
