The New Stretch of the Railway, Which Will Connect Maracaju, in Mato Grosso do Sul to Paranaguá, in Paraná, Will Have a Network of 1,285 Kilometers in Length

Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul have taken another important step in consolidating the Nova Ferroeste railway project, which will connect Maracaju (MS) to Paranaguá (PR), also known as the Western Export Corridor. The technical team from both governments presented a preliminary demand study on Monday (22), which is considered a key factor for attracting investors. One highlight is that the project is expected to reduce export costs by 27%.

The Railway Project

The project aims to create the second largest corridor for transporting grains and containers in Brazil, connecting the two main export hubs of the Brazilian agribusiness. Only the São Paulo network will have a higher capacity.

Carlos Roberto Massa Júnior, better known as Ratinho Júnior, the current governor of the state of Paraná, says that the potential of this axis is enormous, and that with the investments being made in ports and the implementation of railways, they will provide better conditions for the productive sector in Brazil.

The Works of the Railway from Mato Grosso do Sul to Paraná

The total length of the new railway network is 1,285 kilometers. The package includes the construction of a railway between Maracaju and Cascavel. A new route between Guarapuava and Paranaguá; a multimodal transport branch linking Cascavel to Foz do Iguaçu; the revitalization between Cascavel and Guarapuava.

The technicians responsible for the railway works believe that the construction will have a significant impact on national logistics, reducing costs and expanding export capacity. It indirectly covers 925 cities in three countries. Brazil has 773, Paraguay has 114, and Argentina has 38. In Brazil, it directly reaches 425 municipalities in the states of Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Santa Catarina, totaling approximately 9 million people. The region accounts for 3% of Brazil’s gross domestic product (GDP).
