Billion-Dollar Investments Boost Stainless Steel Market in Mining. Projected Contributions of US$ 64.5 Billion by 2028.

São Paulo, March 2024 – After experiencing a stable scenario in 2023, with revenue around R$ 248 billion, projections remain quite optimistic for Brazil’s mining sector in the coming years. According to Ibram (Brazilian Mining Institute), in the country, investments in the segment are expected to exceed US$ 64 billion by 2028, spurred mainly by the high demand for critical minerals – such as lithium and copper – widely used in energy transition processes for renewable sources.

The expectation is that Brazil will position itself as a global leader in the production of these strategic minerals, leveraging its vast geological potential. Furthermore, investments in the sector are expected to boost the national economy, generating jobs and stimulating regional development. With the growing demand for clean energy sources, the country has the opportunity to establish itself as a major global supplier of essential minerals for the energy transition, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future.

Composed of Lithium, Copper, and Other Minerals, Stainless Steel is Commonly Applied to Pipes and Tanks, as Well as Drilling Platforms, Tools, Walkways, and Many Other Items

According to Marcos Ledo, President Director of Krominox, the expansion and the confidence index generated by the mining sector, especially due to the good expectations for the coming years, keep other markets, such as stainless steel, vibrant. The metal alloy not only offers excellent durability and corrosion resistance, which is quite present in the production processes in the mining industry, but has also been a safe bet lately, especially in terms of sustainability.

“We have seen a strong increase in this specific sector demand in recent years and, strategically, we are preparing to meet these needs. Stainless steel is commonly applied to pipes and tanks, as well as drilling platforms, tools, walkways, and many other items used in mineral processing,” points out the executive from Krominox, which is currently a national leader in the production of pipes and solutions in stainless steel.

Mining is an Important Area for Renewable Sources, Providing Essential Inputs for Solar Panels and the Production of Electric Vehicle Batteries.

According to Ledo, besides all these attributes of strength and resistance, like other segments, the mineral sector has also been going through the energy transition, a process in which the use of stainless steel becomes even more prominent.

“Mining is an important area for renewable sources, providing essential inputs for solar panels and the production of electric vehicle batteries. At the same time, the sector is also looking to adapt to this new scenario, using clean energy for its own operations. Therefore, the choice of stainless steel becomes even more relevant since we are talking about an eco-friendly metal alloy that is fully recyclable and can be applied in various stages of this industry,” points out the executive.

Krominox is One of the Leading Brazilian Companies Specialized in the Manufacture of Pipes and Solutions in Stainless Steel

As diversas ligas de aço inox não levam nem lítio nem cobre e sim cromo e níquel.
