Mineração Rio do Norte (MRN) once again displayed an exemplary performance, ensuring the Gold Seal for its advanced practices in managing gas emissions of the greenhouse effect. This important milestone highlights MRN's continuous effort in the search for sustainable solutions within the mineral sector, particularly in the Amazon region. The conquest of Gold Seal not only underlines the company's operational efficiency, but also reinforces its commitment to environmental preservation.

To achieve this notable award, MRN underwent a rigorous audit conducted by a third party, in accordance with the most demanding international standards. Such certification It is a testament to the company's engagement in responsible environmental practices. The award highlights MRN's position as a leader in decarbonization initiatives, ensuring that the company continues to do its part for a greener and more sustainable future.

This highlight recognizes the management practices of gas emissions greenhouse effect (GHG) emissions of the company, certifying its corporate inventory at the highest level of qualification. THE certification attests to transparency and the quality of public emission data, reinforcing MRN's credibility with the market and neighboring communities. Since 2007, MRN has carried out detailed inventories that cover all phases of its productive chain, from extraction to shipment of bauxite, with rigorous management of its GHG emissions.

Commitment to Emissions Management

This year, the company further advanced its commitment to climate change management by reviewing the emission factor related to vegetation suppression, one of the main sources of CO₂ in its operations. According to Wvagno Ferreira, General Manager of Performance Management, Risk and Internal Controls at MRN, the Gold Seal certification reaffirms the company's commitment to transparency and environmental responsibility. 'The Gold Seal is a recognition that ensures, through third party audit, that the information disclosed is in line with international standards', he states.

Brazilian GHG Protocol Program

The Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, developed in 2008 by Center for Sustainability Studies from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGVces), in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI) and other institutions, is a global reference in the management of GHG emissions. Obtaining the Gold Seal involves a rigorous process of audit and verification, conducted by entities accredited by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), guaranteeing the accuracy and integrity of the data disclosed.

Promote a More Sustainable Future

As part of efforts to promote a more sustainable future, MRN aims to reduce its GHG emissions by 23% by 2030, aligning with global climate change mitigation standards. The company also continues to promote environmental awareness and preservation actions among its employees, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable practices aligned with ESG principles (acronym in English for Environmental, Social and Governance).

Certifications Reinforce Commitment

In addition to the Gold Seal, MRN maintains its operations certified by ISO 14001, which ensures responsible environmental management, and by the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI), reinforcing its commitment to sustainability throughout the aluminum value chain. 'These certifications reflect the company's continued dedication to operating responsibly, prioritizing safety, health and respect for the environment and the communities where it operates,' adds Wvagno Ferreira.

With this vast recognition and various certifications, it is clear that MRN is not only dedicated to managing its GHG emissions, but also to transparency, reliability and environmental responsibility in all its operations, consolidating itself as an example of good practices in the sector.
