The Increase in Enel Bills in Rio de Janeiro, Approved by Aneel, Will Come into Effect on the Next 15th (Monday)

Aneel approved yesterday (09), Tuesday, an average increase of 6.02% in the electricity bills of Enel Distribuição consumers in Rio de Janeiro. This increase will come into effect on March 15. Commercial and residential users receiving low voltage have an average adjustment rate of 4.63%, while industrial users powered by high voltage have an average adjustment rate of 10.38%.

Factors That Led to the Adjustment at Enel in Rio de Janeiro

Among the factors affecting the adjustment, Aneel highlighted the rise in the energy cost from the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant and the impact of the increase in the U.S. dollar in recent months. According to the National Agency, the adjustment is modest due to the so-called “Covid account,” which requires the return of funds, that last year set working capital limits for companies in the sector and may soften consumer tariffs.

Enel Consumers in Rio de Janeiro

According to the national agency, there are about 2.7 million consumer units of Enel in Rio de Janeiro. Municipalities within the coverage area of the Multiplix Portal, such as Teresópolis, Cachoeiras de Macacu, Duas Barras, and Santa Maria Madalena also receive electricity from the distributor.
