Petrobras will invest in oil extraction with low carbon emissions. The environment will benefit greatly
With the whole world working to reduce carbon emissions, the oil sector can benefit from generating new business opportunities. A Petrobras believes that technology extraction low-carbon oil production could be the main factor that will benefit the environment, points out a Reuters report.
Fernando Borges, executive director of Exploration and Production at Petrobras, participates in an oil congress at Offshore Technology Conference, where Petrobras is looking for partners to develop the fields of waters deep.
These fields will feature low-carbon extraction technology. These technologies could help oil companies achieve carbon emission reduction targets. The Ministry of Mines and Energy scheduled meetings with Exxon, Ecopetrol e Total Energy to discuss the topic, in addition to the possibility of new projects in Brazil.
Petrobras will invest in undertakings designed to operate with reduced carbon emissions, using platforms powered by energy from renewable sources. The understanding is that if these actions are put into practice, the platforms will be able to reduce carbon emissions by up to 20%.
Petrobras is responsible for more than two-thirds of oil extraction in Brazil, with around 2,7 million barrels of oil and gas a day. The company's goal is to reach 3,3 million barrels by the year 2025. In December, Brazil will offer concession auctions for the exploration of oil and gas in the Sépia and Atapu blocks, in the area of transfer of rights in the Basin of Santos.
The whole world will have to reduce carbon emissions
Over the coming decades, oil producers will have a lot of work ahead of them in terms of the environment. They are being pressured by entities, investors and governments to drastically reduce emissions of carbon.
Brazil hopes to produce oil at a low cost, combined with lower carbon emissions. The country expects to pump 150 barrels a day from just four high-volume wells. If compared to data from a decade ago, a similar production would only happen with the drilling of 20 wells.
