Exports of fuels with low sulfur content from Petrobras' Pre-salt had a great increase in the midst of the pandemic
Brazilian state-owned oil and gas company Petrobras has seen monthly fuel oil exports jump year on year. May's figure of 1,11 million tonnes of fuel oil beat February's figure (and previous record) by 10%. But compared to the same month of the previous year, the increase was 231%, according to the Mercopress news agency.
Petrobras has been focusing on pre-salt fuel exports as the global market shifts to a lower sulfur product. The company said the new global specification for sulfur in marine fuels was behind the increase.
“With demand for our products proving better than expected, we opted to gradually return average production to around 2,26 million barrels per day in April while increasing utilization rates at refineries,” Petrobras told Reuters.
