According to the Secretariat of Ports, Airports, and Railways (SPAF), cargo movement at Santa Catarina ports grew by 11.4% in 2023, compared to the previous year, while the national average was 6.86%. This growth above the national average highlights the importance of the ports of Santa Catarina in the Brazilian logistic landscape.

Start of 2024 and Future Projections

For the year 2024, the growth perspective continues. Portonave, one of the main ports in Santa Catarina, registered a 41% increase in cargo movement between January and May, compared to the same period last year. The Port of São Francisco do Sul, on the other hand, experienced a growth of 16%, while the Port of Itapoá reported a 12% increase in the first half compared to the first six months of 2023.

This joint growth reinforces the high demand for logistical centers in the northern region of the state. Santa Catarina, with its strategic ports such as Navegantes-Itajaí (Portonave), São Francisco do Sul, and Itapoá, establishes itself as an important port axis in the country.
