According to Sebastião Madeira, Chief Secretary of the Civil House, the reactivation of Alumar’s plant is very important, and the governor entrusted him with thanking this action of the aluminum production company and Alcoa in Maranhão, because it means jobs, taxes, and income distributed in the state, as well as projecting an image of dynamism for Brazil and showing that Maranhão is a great place for new investments.

Madeira also highlights that new investments arrive in the state almost daily, stating that Maranhão is a land of great opportunities. This significant impact on job and income generation in the state is a result of the R$ 957 million investments in the plant, which is also part of Alumar’s strategy and its affiliates to expand production, seeking new opportunities in the global market.

Alumar Plant Will Produce 447 Thousand Tons Per Year

The aluminum plant of Alumar that generated thousands of jobs comprises 03 Production Lines and an operational complex of 710 pots. The manufacturing estimate is large and represents a volume of 447 thousand metric tons of aluminum annually.

In the first phase, the plant is expected to produce 828 tons of aluminum with the energization of 68 pots, which is equivalent to 34% of the operational capacity of the 204 pots that make up Line 01. The total capacity is expected to be operational by March next year, using the latest cutting-edge technologies and adhering to global standards suitable for new environmental policies, with totally sustainable energy.

According to Alcoa Brazil’s president, Otavio Carvalheira, the resumption of aluminum production in Maranhão, with clean energy, places Alumar’s unit ahead of its competitors, not only in the Brazilian market but also internationally.

Alumar Creates Training Program to Generate Job Opportunities for Women

According to Helder Teixeira, Alumar’s director, the plant operates with 93% of its workforce being locals, thus almost all the employees are from the area, trained and perfected to work in the industry. Another positive aspect of the unit’s operational return is the social investments.

According to Teixeira, over the years, the company has been recognized as a corporate citizen. For the company, social responsibility is paramount, and the proof of this is that Alumar partners with several institutions.

During the hiring process for jobs at the plant, the company developed several programs to promote women’s training. According to Walmer Rocha, operations manager at Redução, 50 women were hired and received training so that they could work at the plant.

According to Walmer, the current workforce of the company comprises 20% women, and the company knows that in the industrial sector, these numbers are still modest, which is why it seeks partnerships to expand these figures.
