Almost half of Brazilian companies opted for the home office in 2020; many should continue in this model

The home office became a reality for approximately 46% of Brazilian companies in 2020, according to the Covid-19 Crisis People Management survey carried out by the Fundação Instituto de Administração (FIA). For new hires, numerous organizations of all sizes and sectors have opted for the 100% remote regime, expanding the possibility of CVs and saving on travel.

For Taís Targa, who is a psychologist, job hunter and specialist in outplacement, the hiring model already in the home office regime brings a great challenge for companies, which is to be able to integrate the new employees with the team and create a culture of belonging from a distance.

Taís explains that society was already experiencing a scenario where “turnover”, employee turnover, was high. And one of the main obstacles in this new context for business is to motivate employees and integrate them into the company's culture, encouraging them to work within existing flows and processes.

How companies can adapt

For Tais Targa, the effectiveness of the home office no longer needs to be questioned. “We don't need to rule out face-to-face work, but the remote model turned out to be a very interesting solution for optimizing time. In addition, by taking cars off the street, we also improve traffic, reduce pollution and generate savings, without jeopardizing deliveries”, he analyzes.

For companies that choose to open vacancies in the 100% remote model, Taís recommends having specific work channels and centralize communication. According to her, this is a way of ensuring that new professionals are clearly instructed so that they can adapt to the company's routine and culture.

Another piece of advice from the psychologist is to create moments of integration during working hours, such as a virtual happy hour on Fridays, a raffle for employees with branded products once a month, or even specific games with the teams seeking to generate unity and rapport among collaborators.

Many companies already offer remote positions for employees in different countries. On the websites of the most influential companies in Brazil and the world, such as Netflix, Google and Microsoft, for example, it is possible to find vacancies for Brazilian professionals. On the local scene, startups also opened vacancies for home office. Just a quick search on sites like Contabilizei, Stone, Amaro and Pipefy confirms this trend. “For a significant number of companies, the home office will be the default. This does not mean, however, that processes and workflows can be ignored. This is a new scenario for existing activities and the great challenge for the team is not to lose track, because that is what generates result”, points out the expert.
