According to the minister, analyses from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations and the International Energy Agency indicate a significant role for nuclear power over the next 30 years to meet the demands for large-scale baseload energy generation for the energy transition towards decarbonizing the economy.

The Importance of Uranium Mining in Brazil
The mineral extracted in Caetité serves as fuel for the nuclear plants in Angra dos Reis and will be sent for enrichment at the Brazilian Nuclear Industries (INB) unit in Resende, Rio de Janeiro. Mining will occur at the Engenho Mine.
Work will be carried out by INB, which stated its proposal to make Brazil self-sufficient and an exporter of uranium concentrate. According to the company’s advisory, the goal is to achieve 260 tons of uranium in Brazil by 2022.
“After five years, we have restructured everything to have a new foundation based on a new change in direction, and it has been decided to open a new pit within the Caetité mine and also advance with the Santa Quitéria Project. Today, given this perspective from the Government, the Santa Quitéria project is fundamental,” emphasizes Tomás Figueiredo.
