The culture of cars that jump on the asphalt was born in the garages of Mexicans in the 1940s, was treated as a crime in the United States for decades, and has now become an official postage stamp of the American Postal Service in a twist that no one expected.
The expectation for Subaru’s new electric car is that it will present highly competitive performance in comparison to its competitors.
The automaker estimates that, with its horsepower and torque, the model can complete a lap around the Nürburgring in 6 minutes and 40 seconds, which should be faster than the 7 minutes and 35 seconds of the Tesla Model S Plaid, although a bit slower than Volkswagen’s ID.R, which reaches 6 minutes and 5 seconds.
Subaru Presents the Solterra STI Concept
One of the standout points of the new electric race car from the company is its battery, which is quite small, with a capacity of 60 kWh. However, the manufacturer claims that this will not be an obstacle and that the model will perform well on the track.
Testing of the vehicle, which delivers over 1000 horsepower, is expected to begin at the end of this year. During its presentation at the Tokyo Auto Salon, Subaru also showcased its new electric crossover concept, the Solterra STI Concept.
The company did not go into detail about the new electric car, but the vehicle shows some changes from the previously presented version, coming with a skirt and roof spoiler and some other performance-oriented modifications.
About the Company
Founded in 1953, Subaru was one of the first companies in the Japanese automotive industry. Despite being a “small” company in the sector when compared to other competitors, the automaker has proven to be highly profitable for several years.
Subaru began mass production of 4WD models in the 1970s. At that time, these vehicles were mostly aimed at heavy-duty work, sometimes involving more challenging terrains. Using this system in passenger vehicles, in addition to being a revolutionary idea, leveraged this technology to combine the excellence of driving comfort with a more effective level of traction and performance.
